LOL fking idiot talking about the US simi lanjiao?

its different yes but TOTALLY different? Most engineers worth their salt have basic CS programming fundamentals and are familiar with different softwares throughout the engineering course.

True, CS majors focus alot more on math and hardcore CS fundamentals (OS, networking etc) that are immensely valuable these days but dont tell me engineers cant learn all these lmao

Indeed. The place i used to work has such a dull and boring environment. I rather do something that can help lives.

Hi all, just wanted to share a small update to what I have posted in the forums previously. I am currently a senior quality engineer in a large healthcare MNC.

1st year: part time role in a startup, S$1,000/mth working 50%
2nd year: converted to contract role in same startup, S$3,200/mth
3rd year: promotion, S$3,650/mth
4th year: moved to MNC, S$4,400/mth
5th year: no change, S$4,400/mth
6th year: moved to another MNC, S$6,750/mth contract role
7th year: same role, pay increment of approx 10% to S$7,400/mth

I am not a manager and have no direct reports. My opinion is that engineering roles certainly still does have the potential to pay decently well. In fact, I just went for an interview for a similar quality role in a healthcare MNC, where they revealed that they have a 5 figure monthly budget!

It's rather difficult to generalise because quality engineering is such a broad field, there are quality engineers in R&D, software development, manufacturing, civil/aerospace engineering etc. But from a non-software perspective, quality engineers would be doing work related to risk management, audits, the quality management system (ISO9001 for general businesses, ISO13485 if healthcare related, AS9100 for aerospace industry), manufacturing quality such as statistical process control and validation/verification of manufacturing processes, test method validations etc.

Thank you! I was pleasantly surprised too. For my current role - 2 mths max bonus with no AWS. So in terms of TC then it's less than a 53% jump from the previous role.

If you're asking about software tools then the answer is that specific tools don't really matter because at the end of the day there are many different tools that provide the same outcome, and every company uses a different set of tools. The most important part is to understand the fundamentals - you can always learn how to use the software in a matter of days.

Just a general question, is this progression normal or to the upper / lower side for an engineer? Not to put you down or something and i might be naive here, but it seems not so good to me. As a fresh grad there are many roles paying 5k per month. Compared to that 7 years of experience makes only ~50% more? Quality is also a good role. Honestly i have offer from both eng and B&F side… if this is the avg progression is it better to go B&F?
