Default Is our basic pay been stagnant for many years?

Is it due to PR and foreigner willing to accept lower pay? Which make us Singaporean unfavorable in job hunting?

Yes, and they expect promotion every year. For non promotion year they want 10% increment pa. 7% pa increment is considered just tolerable.

Well, without the increment, how are we going to survive the inflation every year..
A bowl of noodle which cost $3 a year ago now cost $4, right after gov known to public that they planning to increase gst few years later..

$3 to $4 in one year is inflation of 33% which is ridiculous. Are you sure about this? Anyway, they are discussing about the absurd demands from fresh graduates when they are expecting increment way above the inflation rate or asking for high salary just because a handful of people are earning high salary. Every young grads want to be in the top 5% which is impossible.

Well, maybe for a few lol, but most of the hawker stall I went have increased. It’s like a tsunami.. what my point is, the cost of living is rising up fast, and how to survive this tsunami without raising our expectation of income. We can’t live on the same pay for the rest of our life, am I right?

PR and foreigner are most willing to accept lower pay and work crappy jobs that locals avoid. Actually in a way, Singaporeans will continue to lose out if they continue to be choosy and expecting unrealistic benefits. The foreigners I encountered gave me the impression they are willing to learn all sorts of things to equip themselves for the job they are after. This is also one aspect that Singaporeans are lacking in. So if you were the employer, who you will choose ?

Nobody expect to live on same pay throughout their lives. I am also expecting % increment each year. The question is about expecting absurd increment % and high salary as they benchmark to the minority who earns ridiculous high income.

Be realistic and humble. Gain experience and learn. You will be rewarded with right attitude.

Are you sure all the Singaporean are like what you say? to my opinion, i think the foreigner are spoiling the Singapore market... if an undergrad foreigner willing to accept $1500 as the starting pay, Singaporean undergrad is not able to raise their salary expectation as employer would benchmark at $1500 for the starting pay. Thinking the fact that the high cost of living in Singapore for a Singaporean compare to the lower cost of living on the foreigner country, which the foreigner simply can earn enough and go back live like a king... it's hard to compare apple to orange, hope you know what i mean

No grad i heard is expecting high salary increment. The fact is,foreigner hire are more attractive than local. Cause of cpf scheme. Cost of hire for spore workers is automatically higher than foreigners.

If i earn 2k. After cpf is 1.6k. To my boss, my cost is 2.5k. My boss can easily hire foreigner for 1.6k without having to pay cpf.
