Depends on what role. What type of role did you apply for? Eg policy, finance, IT

I think 7.5k sounds too high.

6 years experience usually renders 5-6k

Policy and Operation.

5-6k with around total 4 months bonus? Isn't that just 80k to 96k?

u sldnt even consider civil/public service if u r going for high income. just stick to the private sector.

2nd this. 6 yrs exp from private probably gets around $5k, possible to be below $5k even.

mid-careers joining stat board lose out a lot to freshies in terms of pay, similar age, similar performance.

6 yrs relevant experience will be discounted? 6 yrs relevant experience in private might be more valuable than 6 yrs in public service. With average 4 months bonus at $6k basic is close to what I am getting now.

It's not about being discounted etc.

Think about it - those who joined fresh had more time to prove themselves in the org. Therefore, their performance and potential would have been assessed, even before you joined.

I think they may offer you Stg sinilar to what you are getting in private sector. So do consider carefully whether you are able to accept the pay/progression in public service, especially if you are already doing well in private sector.

stat board doesn't see it this way unless they are looking for specific skills to lead a dept/division. they reward those who have been with them. this is what i learned from HR as a group of us mid-career feedback about getting low paid. i know of many cases where the candidates have relevant exp but did not join as salary is not up to expectation. causes quite a problem for dept heads looking for new staffs.
