I think civil service has been stagnated for awhile right? If you go back to the old pages, you realise that lat 1-2 years ard also 3.8 for 2:1 males already.

So are first class students getting over 4 these days, or that figure only exclusive to NUS NTU SMU SUTD?

How does one define a specialist scheme - a ministry that offers a different scale?

So for example, MFA is a specialised scheme - then i think they use the FSO scale?

My question is are MOE Teacher’s (GEO) a specialist scheme also? What about Mindef (DXO), or some special functions in MHA that does not follow the MX scale?

It seems like specialised scheme pay more than the regular MX?

Well...some dept under specialist scheme but the work scope is similar to or less than a normal typical MX scheme's work scope.

get a 1st if possible.

be interested in microeconomic research - they are more driven towards that. so, if possible, do an empirical thesis.

no specific course, but any advanced courses in econometrics will be helpful. overall, you need at least a 2:1 economics degree to qualify for application.

source: my friend applied for it.

Nope, lol. The pay is pegged at the specialist scheme renumeration, only 4.5k at least according to earlier discussions.

In my opinion, internship won’t be that helpful, most specialist scheme put more weight into academic outcomes than internships, especially the ES’s KPI is geared on economic research. Would be helpful if it you have an economist or public service internship maybe?

My friend added that the interview was very technical and rigorous, so if you love explaining technical econometrics, then its good. The will ask you to build models and then debate with you over it. Lol. Anyway, it’s a super competitive scheme because the intake is not big, and they do very specialised work - it’s a very studious environment. If you’re interested in macro, then MAS is the one for macroeconomist.

They do have career events for econs department so do chat with them if you have the opportunities. Most important thing is get that FCH. Good luck!
