Civil Service jobs have job grades and the salary HR can offer a candidate is within a salary range. This range is determined on the job grade (relative worth of that job). Where they will offer you within that range is based on your personal merits i.e. education, job experience and all else you can offer while performing that job.

All other versions you've read, i would highlight that you scrutinise the validity before you believe and share what you've read.
Could you pls share what some of the job grade you mention are? Careers at gov never rly specify if exec is higher than manager or if director higher than manager and so on. Are these job grades??

Hi, I have a query and hope someone here can offer insight. Last year, I moved from Ministry A to stat board B under movement policy. I had to forgo my PB to join the stat board. One year later which is now, one of my ex colleagues in Ministry A got an offer from stat board B as well. But i heard that he mentioned stat board b will pay his PB for work done in ministry A so he don't have to forgo his PB this year. If this is true, then there is indeed an unfair treatment. Any one can shred any light on this? Thanks

Oh I agree, don't believe everything you read online, especially by anonymous contributors, and scrutinise all you read.

While it's true we're not to openly share any of this information though (hence the anonymity on my part), I'll stand by the fact that academic qualifications are indeed a part of the criterion we use to ascertain your potential paygrade, and it's not wise to pretend otherwise.

Like he says right after mentioning my proverbial "classes" are not real (which is correct, there's no regimented class system, it was just my casual way of categorising them for you to understand more easily the directives HR works with, but he seems to have thought I meant that literally), education factors in in the, as he puts it, "personal merits" used to gauge your worth.

It is also correct that the salary range offered is based off your paygrade. However, in my responses I am assuming you understand I estimate the salaries based off the notion you're applying for entry-level positions, which is to say, MX13, possibly MX14. I'd also like to point out these salaries are covering a wide range of Ministries/SBs. For instance, the MFA has been known to offer starting salaries of 3.5 to 4k for their FSOs, while others cap out at 3k for fresh graduates.

He refers to, I assume, the paygrades. You are referring explicitly to job titles. These are not that relevant, seeing as "Assistant Director" for example can be anywhere from MX11 to MX9 depending on an assortment of factors.

Public Service jobs tend to start with MX13, with salary anywhere from 2k to 3k+ on average. Others start with Intern/Associate-type positions at the bottom rank. The lower the number, the higher your rank and associate salary. MX12 is higher than MX13 for example.

You "heard"?

Did he explicitly tell you and show you?

If not, you have very little grounds for making the argument based on "unfair treatment". Either investigate further, or drop the matter.

Hi greatly appreciate your valuable inputs.

Check with you to what extent would our Annual Appraisals be shared when reference checks are conducted for people moving between SBs and/or Ministries (any diff in treatment between public and civil?) Ie. would comments be shared, or the actual grades or what nots.

Also, when they conduct reference checks, how far back would they check? I.e. i started at a Ministry but wasnt confirmed and went on to a stat board. When I leave this stat board for a Ministry in future, how will this play out?

Thanks!

This means Singaporean males will be getting this sort of pay at 35 and females at 33 if they graduated locally. That's not too shabby eh?

All the civil servant always think about pay adjustment and pay hike. Don't they know they are already above the median. It is not a practice to have pay hike/adjustment every few years.

You do realise that there are also people in the public service that are below the median income?

If I am currently with a stat board, can a ministry/department offer me a post with paycut under movement policy?
