That's good. Can you share your net worth and how much is your passive income for you to finance your family's expenses?

I am the one who said our household networth is about S$2.4 mil (including our residence)
We own one Sg FH 3 bedder condo and 1 JB FH semid , both fully paid
Hubby is a VP and I am a locum GP, both earning S$10k plus each mth.
I work about 30 hrs a week with 3-4 afternoons off.
Though we don't have that much passive income now, mostly active. We can retire in JB by renting out our condo in future.

You can fully retire now.
You can rent out your Sg 3 bedder condo for S$4k pm (RM12k).
Retire in your JB home.
Lead a simple, stress free life.

I wish to also but my hubby longs to buy a Sg FH landed again...we had sold our FH terrace last year ....

Though we have our IPA already and can afford to buy up to S$3.15 mil if we extend our loan tenure to 29 years up to 75 years old but we r still in SSD period.

What’s so good about SG landed property? Why have more debt? You should be debt free by now. It is stressful to have debt in your 40s and 50s. What if both of you lose your job and your property fall in value? You can’t afford to pay the mortgage and if you sell the property, you lose a lot of money.

Be contented living in a paid up home. Be debt free. No stress.

I agreed with this comment.

Your networth of $2.4M including fullly paid residences, means that you have hardly much cash.

3 bedder condo worth in range of $1.5M, Malaysia prty $400K? So balance $500K cash?

I did not value my condo so high as SRX did not but maybe I should.

Our cash plus OA combined about S$800k and we have IPA to borrow up to S$1.77 mil with tenure up to 75 years old. Extended tenure as loan can be less than 55% of buying price. But we would have to sell our condo to avoid absd.

Recession coming soon and we r still in SSD so will likely wait and see.

Cool

Just to add that we made a million profit with our EC and FH terrace bought at market lows during crisis time that is why we believe in property investment. But also depends on election results, economic conditions....many pioneer generation cashing out of their landed when their children not interested to stay with them and they r willing to sell below valuation too.

I wish I can rent for S$4k per month too but unlikely. Though location not bad but oversupply and rental market weakening.

My spouse and I are thinking of retiring in a less developed and cheaper country. Thailand and Malaysia come to mind. We quite like KL as we have family and friends there and most people can speak English. Penang is also possible.

When we retire at 55, our children will be working and living in their own BTO flat. We can then rent out our Singapore home to professional FTs and their family. If we rent out at S$2500 pm, we can then get RM7,500 pm after currency conversion.

We will spend on:
KL condo rental RM2,000 pm
Food and groceries RM1,000 pm
Transport and utilities RM1,000 pm
Medical and entertainment RM1,000 pm
Holidays and miscellaneous RM1,000 pm
Total expenses RM6,000 pm
Savings RM1,500 pm

When we reach 65, we will get an extra S$4,000 pm (RM12,000 pm) from our CPF Life. We can then rent a more posh prime property in KL for RM5,000 pm and enjoy holidays to Europe. As well as saving more.

Not sure of retiring in JB though. Is it safe to retire in JB? What’s your opinion?
