Singaporeans claim to be from first world country but the way I see you guys treat getting a condo as a life goal is really quite sad man. 85% of Singaporeans stay in HDB. Also, most don't get to own cars. For middle income group, I dare say that KL families are having a higher standard of living!

Are you from KL? May I know how much per year does a typical middle income family in KL earn?

My guess maybe RM 10,000 per mth household income.
Half the working Singapore workforce exceed this easily.

That is why for the Singaporean middle income who wants to retire with house and car, we retire in Malaysia...

Indeed, my wife and I plan to retire soon, maybe when we reach 50. We are tired of our corporate life and not so healthy anymore due to the toil on our bodies as we worked very hard.

Once our son goes overseas to further his studies (his study fund set aside), we will retire in Penang. We will rent out our HDB flat and plus income from our investments, we will get $4k pm or RM11k pa of passive income. Rental in Penang is cheap as we can rent a nice 2 bedroom condo near the beach (with sea view) for RM1.5k pm. The rest of our passive income will be for food, car, dining out, entertainment, holidays, donations, etc. We can still save RM5k pm. Our son will most probably get a job overseas and he can visit us once or twice a year in Penang. We will get additional funds from him, most likely $600 pm.

Are u M'sian? If not, have u checked out the condition and requirement to retire in M'sia?

If u are not on the MM2H program, then you will have to make frequent trips out of the country just to satisfy the visa requirement. That is troublesome.

And if you want to get on the MM2H program, you will need to show proof of S$5k per month income to qualify. This is on top of a RM300k deposit in their banks. For those above 50 yo, the amount is RM150k deposited into one of their banks.

They also only want people with money.

No problem meeting the requirement. The income proof is RM10k pm (S$3571 pm) and not S$5k pm. The deposit required is small actually.
