My prediction at today's closing

Cat A $70k
Cat B $80k

Many are buying new cars to avoid the changes in the CEVS in July 2015 and to avoid the expected drought of COEs in 2019 onwards. With Cat A expected to hit $100k in 2019, current price is still cheap.

Go for guaranteed COE.

This is bad. People are rushing in to buy in anticipation of the next drought. The drought is expected to be more severe than previous round since LTA already said near Zero growth rate while the population is still growing.

After the election, the claw back will take place for sure. Time to pop the champagne and watch COE zoom past $100k!

$100k COE is actually no big deal because it ever reach that level way back in 1994 I think, that is like 20 years ago when household income was a lot lower than today's household income.

When COE hits $100k, a car selling at $100k today (with $68k COE) will be selling at $132k only. If you look at the annual cost of ownership, it is only $13.2k pa. If cost of usage is included, it is only $26.4k pa. A household income of $130k can afford the new car as it is only 20% of annual income. If you take taxis everyday, the cost is about the same. Might as well get the new car.

Good news for those who have booked their new cars.

Cat A dropped slightly to $66,590
Cat B dropped slightly to $75,002

For those who have not bought, go buy now as dealers will adjust their prices down a bit. Go for guaranteed COE.

COEs will move higher in the next few rounds.

If clawback is done now, Cat A will rise to $75k-85k but it will not go to $100k in 2019 and beyond. Current prices will likely be between $60k-75k if there is no clawback now but will rise to $100k and higher in 2019 and beyond when the drought of COEs happen.
