A 3rd year engineer earns less than one-third of that. Engineering is a sh1thole.

You will be driving a taxi in your 40s. Yes, your FT passenger can hit 130k.

Most sales people half his age, including credit card peddlers and even bank telemarketers, already earn more than 120k.
Give up on being technical lah. It's the sales and finance (requiring only simple maths) that make the most money.

The higher starting salary in oil and gas is to compensate you for the increased health risk you might suffer(eg: cancer, deformed childbirth ) ... Everyday you work on jurong island inhaling the polluted air dosed with hydrocarbon particles.. Especially if you're working in the process plants.. everyday you're exposed to work hazards such as risk of explosion and fire ... Tough life... Definitely have to pay a bit more to make people wake up at 6am to go into Jurong island to subject themselves to these things....
But hey.. People working comfortably in the CBD, shirt iron until straight straight, spray perfume until smell nice nice.. Earning the same if not more... so what's the point of subjecting yourself to the enviromental risks/possible health hazards of engineering??

I wonder how many people claiming to be IB are really from IB?
Anyways, let me add to the numbers. Up to you to decide if its true or not.
Equity Research. 28yrs old
$125k base.
Bonus this year hopefully is my job.
Reality check.

Unfortunately, due to weak markets, most ib are not making much in equities and are downsizing. Equity research is usually 1st to get the axe as being non revenue generating
Look at rbs, they are selling off equities business to cimb.
Only bright spot in equities is prime brokerage.
Other business is still okay like fx, rates and commodities - bonus is still decent but not 2-3yrs of base in pre financial crisis
