I often see staff engineer title.
Is this rank higher than senior engineer?
Like principle engineer?
I am just senior engineer
Earning only 116kpa after bonuses
Feel stagnant already.

If you ask me ten years ago if I could see Singapore in such a sad state, I would have laughed in your face. Or do we just pop a xanax and see everything through rose-tinted glasses as we were taught in schools to do?

I totally disagree with that. The issue is not about stagnant pay but rather the increasing mediocrity of jobseekers coupled with 1) increased competition for well paying jobs and 2) alot of grads are caught in traditional jobs which are primed for disruptions.
I have seen good people joining tech with a starting package of $100k p.a. but these are few and far between. But there are many average joe in accounting and finance or business degrees which are primed for disruption and automation.

Maybe just a quick footnote here: i am the beneficiary of my current portfolio manager going back to her home country, and her putting in a recommendation for me to take her role.
Started at 27 because I undertook my MFE over at CMU right after local undergrad here in SG. But don't think this has any bearing on promotion trajectory

Portfolio manager gets only $160k per annum? That seems even lower than many mid-career professional in tech.

I highly doubt that. My brother and a cousin are in big tech and we share our salaries.
They tell me that the world likes to inflate their perceived salary for them.
Or unless your definition of mid-career is having worked 12-15 years.
Of course unless you’re doing IT Sales, like convincing an entire company to use HP for their staff etc, then I agree.
