100 hrs a week? That's rather ridiculous. U'll get burnt out very soon.

No need to chiong until like that. Put in 44 hrs can get $12-13k a month already. If young, no kids and not married yet, can save quite a bit already.

No need to buy the new condos at S$2200 psf, can buy resale freehold at S$1500 or less.

Get married, can easily get loan as a Dr. Will survive, dun worry.

25% downpayment plus stamp duty is close 600k cash/cpf oa

My advice to post 2015 mbbs grads are
Study super hard and get ur fcpfs or minimally mmed in ops
Work super hard now if you are locum
Be super enterprising if u are starting ur own chain

Do you 100hours per week if you are gunning for residency

There is not shortcut to life.
If you dont put in 100 hours, somebody gonna put in.
And they are going to eat your lunch.
Lol.
100h per week. Crazy.
Or you can migrate like I did.
If want to migrate also better do it early and quickly.
Healthcare is not really like the growing industry that is paying
Higher and higher salaries.
Same everywhere.
But at least where I am earning 300 to 400k is still a lot
Compared to cost of cars and houses.

44hrs a week? Work weekends? Nights?
$13k a month. Thats about $74/hr.
😓😓😓
Save? A new car costs $130k. Almost a whole years salary.
Life is really tough in Singapore.

Why do I need to reflect if I can earn more elsewhere?
Good for you man.
I don't know, I am 34 this year, exiting FM residency this year. (Taking exam Nov). I only have 120k cash in total savings/equities (excluding CPF), no property, no car, no wife lol.
Feel like a complete failure compared to my peers outside in gp land/aesthetics.

My progression delayed as I worked overseas for 2 years (fy programme in UK) and i change career tract la (wanted to do IM initially then changed to FM) - in case you wondering why I so old.

Really finding it hard to be happy. (Not sure if this is called mid life crisis..)

Its ok bro, there is still time to catch up
However im perplexed what made you choose FM residency at this age instead of just GDFm and gp land route / locum route ? As by the time u graduate its alrdy 35 years old

Its just reality hitting you. Earnings are not keeping pace
With car and property price.
From what others say if pass mmed then it should be ok?
200k 300k a year?

I also did gdfm during residency and passed. Chose residency as thought can learn more (o&g, paeds stuff mainly). But ya probably could have done the program b route and thought of quitting for ctf during the covid peak. But decided to stay and finish the programme (finishing in 2.5 mths)

Now decision is to stay in ops in lead up to exam or just gtfo and try to make up for lost time. (By working 100hrs per week to catch up financially with my ctf friends I guess)

Was told 200k/year by seniors 2-3 years post mmed (starting ard 180-200, depending on performance)
But question is how can I make up for lost time and youth (the opportunity cost or lost earnings that I missed during the covid peak by doing mmed/residency). Can chiong locum, but not sure how long I can sustain 100hrs/week at my age..
