Bro you dunno don't anyhow say la - stop trying to cover your ass and admit your mistake. Staff Attorneys are like Of Counsel roles, these are not the people being groomed for Partnership - you can jump from Staff Attorney to Associate or SA but it's rare. If you don't even know the difference between staff attorney and associate (it's not primarily about the money), then I cannot trust anything you say lol.

People talking about entering as Assoc what salary, you go pull up Staff Attorney for what. Is like people say Captain pay how much, you tell them the Encik pay in the firm is "not Captain pay".

Just admit you don't know la and you just guessing from the start la lol.

You’re totally wrong, newbie.

I bet you googled “staff attorney”. Rofl. Gibson Dunn’s Staff Attorneys are abit different mind you. The people who moved over (see bottom 2 names in the sg office) are FCH from NUS law. They are on SG scale of salary (approx 11k - 14k for NQ).

Sadly you’re not in the know, and not rubbing shoulders w the right friends in right places. Talk about what “encik”??? Hahahahahahahahahhahahaa stay Big4 bro, good for you

Just chiming in (im not OP). You’re clearly wrong. The Staff Attorney u’re talking abt is in the US (whr they arent on partner track / are sorta part-time / contract basis).

The staff attorney in gibson dunn sg is simply SG scale for SG qualified lawyers (11k - 13k for NQ approx). Please do not mislead ppl. See the last 2 names in GD’s SG office list - they are FCH from NUS.

If you can get a TC with any international firm or MC, SC firm, do the London TC. Else come back.

Secondly, we're discussing a particular case (i.e. the senior assoc from NY Manhattan) not the general SG-qualified lawyers looking to jump in from Big4 etc, which may entail PQE cuts. Why are you talking about SG-qualified lawyers when we're giving advise to someone from NY (and from the tenor of his question - that he's already in biglaw or midsize in NY)?

In case you didn't know, Cravath scale firms do pay COLA and the same salary if you move to SG from NY. Admittedly, this particular person said that this is not possible as his firm is not in SG, but the int firms do pay match overseas associates that they feel are outstanding enough to recruit to SG, and do tend to pay Cravath (less tax) if you're already from a peer US firm.

If this SA is good enough to be looking at Cravath scale firms in SG, and has a reasonable shot of being accepted, then it also follows he will be afforded a Cravath scale package. Even SG lawyers going to Cravath firms get Cravath transatlantic rates at worst, or PQE cut but full pay.
I'm the SA from NY. Thanks, I appreciate your response. As previously mentioned, I'm currently in a V5 firm but we do not have an office in SG.

Skadden, Latham and Gibson would be great options and would allow me to return to NYC in the event that SG does not offer the lifestyle that my family and I are looking for. We are prioritizing a safe environment whereby my child can grow up without having to perform active shooter drills at school.

Besides COLA, do these relocation packages typically including tuition fees for my child's schooling as well?

Any recommendations for recruiters whom I can reach out for more concrete information? TIA.

s://.law.com/international-edition/2021/11/16/big-law-looks-to-canada-australia-to-fill-out-corporate-ranks-in-the-bay-area-378-182558/

Anecdotally my firm (in London) is filling up with Aussies and Kiwis again.

Pay in Australia is similar to pay in Singapore, and yet they're doing very well in the NY, Cali and London lateral markets. Encourage all youngsters who are still able to relocate to try a good 2-3 years overseas! (who knows, you may not decide to come back)

To add, in, by "international", don't necessary look at just their London or UK Chambers rankings.

Chambers also does an "international cross-border" ranking which captures how international a lot of the work a firm does (much of what international firms do is coordinating local counsel on a big project). See below example just for M&A
