If you had said any other MC there are no issues. But I think CC's culture has been examined in some of the forum posts.

Wow Soh Rui Yong just changed lawyers from the number 1 sporting lawyer in Singapore Clarence Lun to Eugene Thuraisingam LLP while his trial is still underway and after losing big time in his application to recuse the trial judge. Clarence's fees too expensive?

being a lawyer sucks. decent grades in sch + do 3/4 years of law sch + 1/2 years of training and bar = earning less than your fboy yolo friends in finance or banks

glut of assocs compounded by a crappy economy = employers market now. also, super long hours, unhelpful seniors, low pay compared to peers, tethered to work phone/outlook on holidays and weekends, etc.

need to make partners and seniors happy, need to make clients happy, need to make staff happy. remember the recent law soc anti-bullying pact or agreement or whatever? - just look at some of the signatories or participating firms lol.

need to compete with white horse colleagues, need to compete with chio colleagues playing the 'game', need to compete with useless colleagues leeching on your work and stealing your credit, etc

need to sayang your bf/gf asking you why always no time to pak tor

Agreed with everything.
But what particularly stood out for me was: “need to compete with chio colleagues”. That one nothing you do can change that unfair advantage a chio person has.

The same can be said of auditors what. And they earn significantly less on average. What toking you?

Most people who studied law did so because of the following reasons:

If low tier foreign law school, because they're mediocre but want the prestige that comes with being a supposed high flyer (according to misconceived layman notions).
If high tier UK law school or NUS or SMU, its because they are unimaginative, unambitious and are not the hustling or entrepreneurial type.

Let's face it most lawyers don't want to stray off the well trodden path and want everything charted out for them. This profession self selects for people with a more conservative bent, who just want to put their heads down to work

The high flyers in law will likely be high flyers in other fields too if they had the inclination for it. the mediocre people in law will also be mediocre even if they do something else

I'm with this guy.
I'm mediocre and pretty happy to stay mediocre. Not much interested in being a high flyer either, doesn't really matter what i do.
