Depends on how you look at it. After the schools that were removed were announced by MinLaw, people have stopped going there I think.

It'll take some time before the market adjusts.

But very soon we'll also have SUSS grads.. a first from SUSS > 2.1 from NUS? Not sure how the market will value them.

With a harder PTC regime and Bar exams, the cost-benefit analysis is likely to tilt against doing law in the first place. You want to do law? Think long and hard about the costs. It will likely be a test of how much you actually want to be in the profession.

Now the real issue is Covid. There is a glut solely because of market forces and low retention rates.

There's some interesting experiences re: LLMs in the compilation of questions and answers from young practitioners which was just posted on Overheard

Hi, thanks for your reply. Is there a general sweet spot for a liti lawyer to go inhouse in terms of PQE which will then allow you to command decent pay and have career progression?

Is my impression correct that if you go in house too early, there may be stunted growth in terms of career progression?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Hard to say about career progression since that is individual role specific. And stats will be rather unrealiable.

Paywise conventional wisdom is you stop getting significant annual increases in line with PQE so that’s what is stunted.

Seems like 5PQE would be a good level. Wonder what others think

Also does getting 2.2 from NUS hurt your employment prospects? I'm on track for a 2.2 and this is just sad

Apologies if I sound harsh, will just be direct.

Employment prospect = getting a TC. Have you gotten a TC yet? If you've tried and failed, then I guess you have your answer. However, don't lose heart and keep trying if law is what you want to do.

If you haven't gotten to TC season yet, then you still have time to raise your grades. Try. I know many people who secure TCs in their fourth year, some even in big 4.
