[QUOTE=Unregistered;137957]OP here.

I'm confused. Why look down on criminal/family lawyers? They provide a necessary service.

Also, I did an internship at a family law firm in Chinatown, and they already promised me a job if I do choose to study law. It's pretty much guaranteed. The partner is a friend of my father. He also knows plenty of other Chinatown lawyers who will take me, and apparently Singapore has a shortage of specialist criminal/family lawyers. Getting a job is not a problem.

I'm aware that the attrition rate is extremely high in this industry, so I'd rather not sacrifice so much of my time into law only to leave a few years down the road. The internship was fun, but that likely isn't an accurate reflection of what practicing is like. I left at 5pm everyday.[/QUO

I feel like im being trolled.

And yet I've already got job offers before doing a single law unit/module in uni.

You do you, kid. Don't let anyone here discourage you. Come back here in 2026 with a photo of you at Mass Call and show all the haters that they were wrong about you.

That is correct. I would also like to add on that community law has its own merits. You get to help a range of individuals from multi-millionaires to estranged wives. The work is impactful as you get to make a huge difference in people’s lives.

The entry to barrier of Chinatown firms is relatively low. However, this should not avert you from applying for a position there. The key point is that you do it if it suits your personality, background and aptitude.

I hope people in the fraternity and those in the forum will stop putting down those who do community law. Chinatown firms deal with different clientele than your typical mid sized/b4/cc/baker. We aren’t competitors. There is no need for such an unwarranted comparison. If OP is keen on doing community law and has a passion for it, who are you to discourage and shame him for using “connections”? I am sure partners are able to judge if a candidate has the aptitude and passion for the work, you don’t have to worry about it.

Default Should I do a tc or stick to current job?

Hi guys, I currently am occupying a junior in-house role. This role was financially supporting me while I was taking my Part A/B studies. Would it be good for me to do a TC now and start my career in the legal industry in this economic climate or would it be better to continue in my in-house role until the economy improves. Obviously if I do a TC, I would vacate my current job and the financial security it provides me with no guarantee that I could secure retention once I completed my tc in this current economy.

Wait for the economy to ride out of the storm then you apply for tc.

Yeah this forum is ridiculous. To OP who suggested direct control over billionaires as a prerequisite for 'connections', please don't make a joke out of your incompetence. Clearly you were not able to find a job and had to rely on your directly controlled connections at your international firm

How much are you being paid? Would be good to understand your circumstances better to advise.
