Also, I did an internship at a family law firm in Chinatown, and they already promised me a job if I do choose to study law. It's pretty much guaranteed. The partner is a friend of my father. He also knows plenty of other Chinatown lawyers who will take me, and apparently Singapore has a shortage of specialist criminal/family lawyers. Getting a job is not a problem.

I'm aware that the attrition rate is extremely high in this industry, so I'd rather not sacrifice so much of my time into law only to leave a few years down the road. The internship was fun, but that likely isn't an accurate reflection of what practicing is like. I left at 5pm everyday.
May I ask where are you planning to study law at?
SUSS or overseas?

I graduated from an Australian HS, so I have to study law at an Australian uni. I'm currently finishing up my NS. I plan on studying either Arts for 1 year and transferring to Law, or Business Marketing. Attending Monash uni next year. I could go to Melbourne uni but that will take longer since Law is only available as postgraduate there.

If your “uncle” (loosely used), knows so and so Lawyer, but it’s so far away, how to help you.
International firms require a steady stream of business, not your “uncle” who can give one or two personal injury cases and that’s it.
Unless your connections is from your parents, otherwise it’s a hollow connection. Useless.
You’ll come to realise this.
You sound like someone at an 'international' firm. The real internationals already have their own clientele, and do not do personal injury, so you can take your non-meritorious flaunts elsewhere. Chances are, your employee/business owning family member is but a blip in the ocean for the real internationals. They already have a steady book of business, which is why they hire based on merit.

By your standards, no one should do law unless they got daddy's money and a steady stream of Forbes listed clients so everyone pls quit law. The only 'international' lawyers that are worth consulting are those who have direct control over billionaires.

What makes you think they'd be controlled by the likes of your junior vibes even as family, what more your incompetence in having to rely on them for a job.

Monash is highly regarded. It is better than a 2.2 from a local university, because there are tons of those without jobs right now

You are still young so it's understandable. But you need to reconsider this weird plan of yours to work as a Chinatown lawyer. Ask yourself, why do you want to do this?

1) Work/life balance in Aussie is infinitely better than SG. So many Singaporeans would KILL the chance to work in a western country.

2) Monash law is a quality degree. Unfortunately, it won't get the recognition it deserves here. You'll undoubtedly get better job offers if you work in Australia as a lawyer.

3) You said it yourself but at this point you have no idea what the life of a Chinatown family lawyer is like. It's a thankless, underpaid job AND you get **** on by your peers 24/7 on top of all that.

Grass is greener on the other side bro. You need to think through this properly.

Yes, only those with direct control over rich people should practice law. You also mean 'international' firm? Seeing as you refer to personal injury, and how these 'international' firms need a steady stream of your business to stay afloat.

The real internationals only hire based on merit. This is why they are coveted. They already have a global book of clients, and are not likely to be cowed by your immature references to 'connections', 'control' and 'parents'.

Seeing as you needed to rely on your stellar connections to get a job in the first place, what makes you think you control them? Don't embarass them with your incompetence please.

Not the OP but I think you mean “practise law.” Also I think the OP is just asking a opinion on whether that is the right path since he already has such opportunities give to him. He is probably aware that community law isn’t the best choice for everyone but is willing to try it out. Why discourage him?

Lmao, probably a bunch of forum trolls who had to expound on their connections to get hired and/or prevent getting cut out of the loop

Nothing bad. I work at one of these firms and not everybody will be able to survive/enjoy/fit in. It's absolutely premature to just assume "i'm ok with it". Almost like we'll take anybody who wants to come join. LOL.
