Sorry why ah? Or is it hearsay here and there? I know of a so and so partner took a few people and left (again, is hearsay here and there) but otherwise, it’s still getting decent work and culture is as it’s always been?

the premise of your question is already wrong.

there's a world of different between resource law and irb.

in fact, we should move away from the much abused term 'mid size' because it (i) doesn't indicate anything about the quality of the firm relative to its peers in its core practice areas, (ii) is often used as a proxy for anything that's not Big 4, and (iii) places undue emphasis on size. technically, Hoh Law and many chinatown / toa payoh firms can be considered mid size (no offence to them).

so your question is like asking: what's the typical GDP per capita of a non-OECD country? well, there's singapore, and then there's zimbabwe.

Is this the quality of critical thinking that junior lawyers have nowadays? smh
Only trash firms do this kind of nonsense so they can increase their billings to clients.

Have you seen anyone without a law degree be called "Partner"?

My point exactly. This guy is a troll.

I was offered NQ pay at IRB around 4.5k but I did not accept last time. Working hours they said 9am to 11pm or later if necessary.

Hope this helps.

yet you're still wrong.

'partner' (and 'director') bear a specific meaning in the Legal Profession Act (and subsidiary legislation), all of which connote a pre-requisite that one is a qualified legal practitioner.

There's a reason why LawSoc requires anyone who is to be designated as 'partner' to first complete the Legal Practice Management Course, even if the person is merely a salaried (non-equity) partner.

My point about the quality of junior lawyers' lack critical thinking nowadays, still stands.

Wow terrible salary considering the number of years needed (4 years of LLB+1 year of part B bar exam preparation+6 months of TC)!

I graduated with second lower from NUS CS, and already I got job offers in excess of $5000 a month!

Meanwhile, my peers who got first/second upper all got offers around the $7000/$8000 mark. Some guy even got an offer of $9000 a month at ByteDance

Lol. You got chip on your shoulder ah? Your future mother in law asking her daughter why she picked an IT guy / programmer over a lawyer or doctor is it.

I know many cs people are still struggling with 'ugly duckling' trauma from being the dumping ground all these years. May i suggest therapy.

It is good that you did not accept it.

The reason why law firms have the audacity to give out such lowball offers is due to certain nonsense lawyers (who lack any self-esteem and accepted it in the past). We should stand united in rejecting such rubbish offers. Such law firms do not deserve to hire any lawyers.
