Work wise, legal service does try to accommodate individual preferences. Generally, many officers get what they ask for. But since the needs of the organisation come first. If they need manpower in one division and there isn't anyone else who is willing to go there, then it is possible that they will post you there against your preferences.

The substantive legal skills you require/learn in your work are no different from the skills that you require/learn in any private law firm. The difference is that you are advancing a different interest (public interest vs. commercial interest).

The work-life balance is decent and the pay for the first few years is not too far behind the top tier local firms. It is probably more than most of the mid-sized/mid-tier firms. The pay difference between legal service and private law diverges around the 5th to 7th year and beyond, where the private law SAs move into the partner ranks.

What do you mean by "user experience"? Your private banking experience is completely not applicable in your first few years of practice. If u can make partner (in a private wealth practice area), your private banking experience and contacts will be useful. However are u willing and able to take a significant paycut, work like a dog and face possible layoffs before then? The legal profession is not as attractive as it used to be, the excess of fresh grads has made the market very competitive. I wouldn't do it if I were you!

Hello fellow lawyers

I came from Indo and actually planning to take a shot on applying as foreign counsel in singapore.

I noticed that in several firms there are foreign desks dedicated for advising clients whose matter is related to a specific country, in my case is Indonesia.

I want to get a better understanding on the pros and cons of working as a foreign consultant in Singapore and how much is the compensation. I'm +7 years PQE (though I don't know if it's relevant for this position).
