Hi, I am a graduate from NUS ISE.

The prospects after graduation, in my opinion, is one of the better ones among all engineering majors. This is because the curriculum in ISE is very broad, since you will be taking modules in programming, applied mathematics, statistics, supply chain, quality engineering. And the idea of "process improvement" is something which is applicable to almost any company. That being said, it also may mean that you are not so specialized in any of the above mentioned fields.

Generally, engineering graduates are widely sought after. Based on my personal experience from job application, I feel that ISE and Mechanical Engineering are prolly the best if you are hoping to keep your options open.

For your reference, a significant portion of my cohort went on into banking, supply chain, manufacturing(quality engineering), telecommunication.

My advise is, to study chemical engineering or mechanical engineering first (if u really wanna major in engineering) in either NUS or NTU. After that, you may choose to pursue a Masters in ISE, which is the most popular graduate programme in engineering.

The undergraduate cohort is the smallest in the engineering faculty. In contrast, the graduate programme is the biggest, where engineers from many fields, ranging from EEE to Mechanical to Physics to Chemical Engineering, congregate. With several years of technical experience under their belt, it is good time for them, usually in their late 20s or early 30s, to learn about costing, project management and quality management. Basically you study many methodology and techniques on how to improve the system.

Graduates with a bachelor's degree in ISE have a hard time looking for engineering jobs cos they don't have the specialised skills and knowledge that each discipline holds. They also cannot compete with banking graduates in the finance industry. Many of them ended up becoming analysts or insurance agents.

As a mechanical engineer myself, I was able to lead improvement projects after attending the M.Sc in ISE course, and thus increase my visibility in the eyes of the management.
I have since left the engineering industry, but I would think that a Masters degree in ISE would give a boost to engineers. It would be able to push them up to junior to middle level management.

And one last thing. At times when I interview job applicants, I would meet some fresh grads (with bachelor's degree) from ISE. They would lament that it is tough for them to compete with engineers and bankers in their respective domains, because they are 'neither here nor there'.

Hope this gives u some added perspectives. Good luck.

According to this http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/post...es/ges-nus.pdf , it seems Industrial & System has quite good prospect.
But why it is written down that Computer Engineering has the best salary?
I thought that Chemical Engineering is the best Engineering when it comes down to career according to what I read in salary.sg

Also, Can I know what does ISE usually do in their lab? Is ISE lab project similar to programming ? One of the main reasons why I have interest in ISE is because I don't like the lab at ME and EE (even if Physics is my best subject)

Hi all,

Can more people explain on the topic of the MSc. Ind. Engineering through their experience taking this course in NUS?
I am in the logistics industry and is actually undecided between this course and MSc. SCM.
Will like to hear about the value career-wise and knowledge-wise pertaining to day-to-day work.

In response to the question above, labs in NUS ISE are all computer labs. You will be exposed to many different types of software. Good or bad, conventional lab experience is 0.

Computer engineers have extremely high salaries. But the downside is that they have to continue learning and upgrading much more or they will be quickly become irrelevant in the field because computing tech moves much faster than the rest. Not sure why you think chem engineering pays the most, it really depends, if you are a chem engineer and you get into O&G then yes, your pay will be high. But those who dont get into O&G probably earn less than mech or even electrical engineers.

I guess that means Computer Science is a degree with pretty good prospect despite the fact that I often read in the internet that IT in Singapore is bad.
As for why I think Chemical Engineering pays the most, it is due to the fact that I often read in the forum here that O&G pays really well and the degree is highly in demand.
