depending on the seniority/sensitivity of the job etc. not all they will do.

reference check usually they will call ppl you state as referees rather than your supervisor, at least in my case.

Default background checks

Hi,
With the Personal Data Protection Act in place, there are severe limitations on what a background check company can accomplish in Singapore. No more casual questions about your health, credit checks, etc. Even banks will not disclose your account details to these companies. So be careful what you disclose about yourself. Good luck

Not sure, but once you signed the application form giving consent to do a background check on you, not sure how applicable the PDPA becomes. If you want the job, you have practically no choice but to accept disclosing.

I have been asked to submit my latest payslip to the company. Therefore, I want to ask if referees checks would be done before that or after that? Thank you, appreciate everyone for the help!

not true. in my company, there are still health check, credit check, as well as payslips and educational/ work experience. Even go all the way to immigration counter to verify work permits and passes.

Default How long does background check go on?

I got an offer with a Big4 Audit firm for a support role. The background check has been doing on for the last 1 month and there is no end in sight. I am without a job until then and cannot afford to wait anymore.

What does a Big4 firm in Singapore check - academics, employment history, criminal record, marriage, ...

Why this take 1 month plus for someone who has lived in Singapore all her life, studies and worked in Singapore most of the time and so on?

Anyone with a similar experience? I am willing to work while the background check goes on but the company told me "no, wait until the checks are over". Waht can I do?

This is strange. The Big4 I work for permits all persons to join, even when the background checks are going on. The understanding is that if there is something adverse in the background check, the person must pack her bags right away. Of course, these days MOM does the background check of its own even before granting EP to foreigners.

What is the world coming to...

i heard from my mum that her colleague was just sent packing immediately after being hired for two days. Reason is that she had past record of stealing $50 and the company just found out from background screening.

Btw my mum is selling tickets at singapore pools. lol

What is past record? Arrests/conviction/sentencing/internal investigation by the company... sky is the limit.
A lot of past record is sealed and not available to any background check company.
Other details can be shared only with government/courts - eg. loans with a bank, hdb details, divorce/remarriage details.
Employment history is easier to check, as are academic details. Why should an employee be sacked for "record of stealing" unless there was a conviction?
