Default Local Vs Foreign Bank

Hi all, does anyone know what are the differences between working in Local Banks (In particular: DBS, OCBC, UOB) and Foreign Banks (In particular: HSBC, Citi)? For example, the differences in terms of career progression, culture, compensation, etc.

Will really appreciate some insights! Thank you.

Not much difference, the big foreign banks HSBC,Citi, SCB all operate very similar to local banks. All have high work loads, big office politicking etc Compensation all quite good though.

Small foreign banks have slightly less benefits but smaller work loads. I go home at 5.30 everyday compared to 8-9 pm everyday at SCB and DBS heh.

Foreign Bank: High starting salary + attractive benefits
Local Bank: Lower starting salary + average benefits

From a fresh grad point of view.

Default Not fresh grad

Fresh grad forgot to mention 2 more differences. 1. Foreign banks chop staff more frequently and more easily than local banks 2. Foreign bank ladies have the sophisticated, hot looking kind of look, local banks have the chio ah lian kind of look, the kind you can only dream of when you're mugging away in JCs.

Apply both and see what comes back. No point talking about it when you don't even know if you qualify...

Default how long does Bank of America take to process candidates

Hi,
I applied for a position in Bank of American. It has been 2 weeks and there is no response. Only a call from HR saying that they will get back soon.
How long does it take Bank of America to process cases of candidates?
Thanks.

friend, bank culture closely resembles the culture of origin. Citi practice American banking style. They are hard-working, direct and USD appreciation is higher. Japanese banks like loyalty, punctuality at the same time being expensive, with low bonus. Bank of China follows hierarchy like Communism strictly. European banks performed poorly in the past because of crisis. Local banks consist of ah bengs and ah lians? Pick the one you like.

Wrong heh, japanese banks actually pay one of the better bonuses now averaging 3-5 months compared to foreign banks like Citi, HSBC or SCB.

Even back-office operations staff get like 3 months compared to the 1-2 months in Citi ops.
