But from the job description, it's not a really very technical role right? I am looking to gain some exp there first. Microsoft, google, apple, this kind of big IT companies where will take a look at me one. Somemore, i heard AO every 2 years rotate, then the exp will be quite rojak right, like that easy to find other job when u leave meh?
Anyone here works in SIA as IT exec? can shed some light?

SIA rotates you every 2 years because the AO is essentially a leadership route.. it is called Administrative Officer for a reason.. you are going to be in administration of the company.. so it wants you to have a broad-based exposure of the company..
You could possibly enter those BIG IT firms in a smaller position first?

SIA AO is not the same as civil service AO. Civil service AO means they rotate you among different functions in prepeartion for you to move up to general management roles like stat board directors, perm secs or MOS.
SIA AO really means doing administration, i.e. they will rotate you among different departments doing largely administrative matters. Joining as AO means that you will be jack of all trades, i.e. easy to find work outisde. But the downside is no pay premium as there is no special skillset or experience

I see. That's a pretty good explanation. So the IT exec is better to acquire a special skillset and experience. Which means, better in long term?

It depend on your risk appetite.
IT = Potential higher pay but higher risk of jobless during downturn. Not easy to find IT jobs when everyone chop support function first during economic crisis
AO = Low pay for generic job, but less risky because admin related job openings are less sensitive to changes in economy
