And of course, they picked on the gap when i told them i was still working when in fact i left in March. I lied because it will look very ugly to have a 6 months gap.

I lost the job offer in the end.

It didnt upset me much due to the following reasons:

1) The workplace is too far, in changi as it is aerospace
2) The HR is very petty
3) I am holding a temp job now so the blow is not as big

But i would say this year is a super damn bad year for me.

I went interviews with 14 companies and out of that, i was selected for 2nd round with 8 companies and all lost. Sometimes it is really due to luck, because when you are in good luck you can get the job in just interview with one company.
Are you going to amend yr CV to show the correct info?

6 months gap is not too long. There are ppl with two years gap and this may even be a trend in near future due to automation.

Don't brood over it. Just keep applying. It is all about luck.

Remember , noone is perfect. I don't believe the ppl commenting in this thread are as honest as they thought themselves are.

Huge red flag for what ? Unless the dude has a criminal record. Otherwise, he is just like anyone here desperate for a job that is all. Simple as that.

Taking liberties with small details in order to make him/herself appear better professionally easily extrapolates into taking big liberties with lots of things for personal gain or expediency. While it does not automatically imply latter behaviour, it certainly suggests person has lower threshold for taking liberties in general. No hiring manager will want to be exposed to tail risk like this.

feel free to nego, but be prepared to lose the verbal offer - no pain no gain.

I encountered a similar case (I am the hiring manager), the candidate renegotiate her offer citing she has a better offer, I fulfill her requirement and now she is one of my better employees!

What are your criteria for a good employee?

I accepted the offer. It was a 20% cut from my last drawn as I wasn’t working then. While the work is fine so far, I still feel a little short-changed. Should I keep a lookout for better opportunities or stay put? I am in mid-career.

Unemployed for 1 year and 4 months for me. Graduated with a Diploma in Electronics and finish my NS last year May. Got a bit of work here and there as contract or whatsoever but not full time employment. So far sent around 250+ applications and less than 20 interview. Even went to the career coach in e2i but all they did was just told me to make my resume pretty, polish my interview skills and handed me a paper with a list of websites to apply for jobs and learn new skills, not that I already know the websites already. Just wondering if anyone been unemployed even longer than me.

Me and many others that we do not see/meet. I'm a NUS graduate last year Jun-Jul. Been working contract till now and still unable to get perm job. My friends who graduated this year Jul...are unfortunately working contract too.

I can tell you that current job market has been bad for everyone. Only those with highly valued skills or extremely good grades managed to get jobs in a short span.

If you notice, most jobs on every possible job portals are filled with contract jobs.

Anyway, all the best to you and me... Dont even know when will this misery ends.
