Have seen this happen before. GEO3 is ultimately still a relatively junior grade, not that difficult for really outstanding officers to blaze through (with school leaders' blessing, of course).

If offered a KP position, is it wise to turn down? Considering the amount of responsibility and work a SH needs to do, it seems better to just stay as a normal teacher, especially since the Geo 5 pay is not too shabby.

If you are already a GEO5 and quite happy with the workload and pay, perhaps it's better to stay that way.

It's wiser to turn down than to take it up, if you are already geo5. Unless you are still driven by enough passion to take on a stupid amount of workload for the paltry potential extra remuneration.

(but even in light of this, people still think it's unfair for the GEO-SEO pay gap to widen.. remember what went down in this thread last year?)

i think it depends on ur cep. if u are gonna stay at let’s say seo 1 eventually then not worth it. but if u are young n cep high enugh to be P ie will breakthrough super scale ranks then with it. but tbh such ppl don’t wait for positons to be given. they ask or work towards it often via committees. some schools don’t even give positions on the grounds that if u are hungry enugh u should ask

If you have no further aspiration to climb, by all means, decline kp-ship and stay at geo5 as HOT.

But if you do still aspire to climb, if you reject KP-ship, opportunities will be hard to come by again in the future, as they need to be given to younger teachers.

sadly ppl who play with the numbers and hv the final say ie non EOs don’t understand that efficiency doesn’t improve student learning outcomes. it’s the one on one and small group interactions ie the labour intensive stuff which do

Ahh. But technology will help you to be more productive and reduce the labor intensity! /s. Especially with this chatgpt craze that people are jumping on.

True, nowadays if don’t get KP ship can also aim for 5A, which seems to be the best spot in terms of balance of workload and money

The 5A pay range is truly a Goldilocks spot. Not to mention you comfortably out-earn all the young, late 20s/early 30s KPs for doing your normal teacher job while they slog like dogs trying to get out of the GEO4 progression trench.
