Because if you were an SH then when you leave HQ you can aim to go back to school as HOD. Harder for non SH to skip steps and go out as HOD. FhQ is different matter, that one HR will probably keep a close eye on you.

GEO3s going for FHQ posting still have a very long runway. They would be in their 3rd to 5th year of service at that point, and are likely slated to be promoted to GEO4 in their second and final year of their FHQ posting, at the latest. When they take up their first KP role after HQ, they'll be about 5 to 7 years in service, which seems quite 'normal' - except that they also already have one HQ posting under their belt
For "farmers" it is much, much better to go into HQ after serving one tour as a SH/LH/AYH. First of all, you would already be GEO4 or higher. Next, you get access to the full range of positions available at Enhanced Posting Support on your way out of HQ.

Hi,
Has been in schools for quite some time and not sure how does the position in HQ work.
What's is the equivalent of the post of SH, HOD, VP to those in HQ? Heard before that there are AD, DD etc?
Can someone enlighten me on that? And AD means assistant director, DD is deputy director?
Also, is there a possibility of switching from our EO scheme to MX scheme if we wish to cross over to be in civil service?
Thanks in advance.

In MOE,
SH = SM (senior manager) HOD = AD (assistant director) or SAD (senior assistant director), VP = DD (deputy director), P = D (director). sometimes can see divisional director above director.
Possible to convert from EO to MX, but unlikely within MOE. Management is reluctant to allow such change of schemes, because if they allow, a lot of EOs will want to convert to avoid returning back to schools. However, it's different when you transfer to other ministries. As MX, it is possible to rotate across ministries.
Change of scheme is permanent.
How to apply?
Method 1. Consider secondment first, get 1 foot through the door. After getting in, if you like the work, can ask their HR if there are openings that you can apply for.
Method 2. Apply through 'internal job search' on workpal/hrp. Job openings will be make available to current civil servants before they open to public.
Method 3. Apply through public route via careers@gov. Can let interviewers know your intention to transfer to their ministry if you get an offer.
Hope it helps

hahajah. the problem with being in schools too long is one thinks having a position in school is big deal, it is not. hod is senior officer at best.
yes can cross over to mx but definitely will hv pay cut.
