Salary Range
Providing an insight on salary to anyone keen to know more
Background: male, FCH, non scholar. 11th year teaching
GEO5, KP.
Gross Salary is around $7.6k
I get $1k+ as part of responsibility allowance (which I'll lose once I hit SEO)
On top of 12month salary, there's also a 13th month bonus, midyear+yearend bonus (fluctuates between 0.5-1mths total) and PB (between 2-2.5 mths if you're a C+/B)
There is also that extra $500 we get every Sept to purchase devices (used to be claimable but now they just give it to all).
The Connect Plan payout is nice I guess, but any euphoria you feel ends within 5mins of you checking the bank account so if anyone is staying because of Connect Plan, just think really hard about it and ask if it's worth it.
Salary is decent, especially since I'm in a relative good, supportive environment.
More than happy to clarify any questions anyone has about stuff in general (is the tele group mentioned earlier active?)

Just to clarify to other people who may not be sure: the 1k+ is a single payment given once per year, NOT a 1k+ extra per month. At this officer's salary point, 1k+ is less than 1% of their gross annual salary.

A GEO4 doing a KP role will get $3k annually as part of the responsibility allowance
And when you get promoted to GEO5, it will only be $1.3k annually.
The higher your rank, the more you should be doing in the first place. Hence the RA decreases as you get promote once you're SEO, you don't get RA since you are doing what you're supposed to do.

0.5 years at GEO1.1 (if you're old enough you'd know)
2 years at GEO1A1
5 years at GEO1A2 (and then it became GEO4). Got 'stuck' as I changed school. Became a KP during this period as well.
3 years at GEO5.
No clue when SEO1 will happen, but just be happy with what we have and take care of your mental wellness and wellbeing.
I consider myself not too fast and not too slow. Just ok progression. A lot of the you get teachers do get stuck at GEO3/4 for a long time. The progression isn't as fast as it was 10 years ago.

For the post 2015 batches, this is considered fast already.
In the first place, contract teaching is now longer due to limited admission dates to NIE. Average contract teaching period is usually around 1 year. NIE has also been extended by a few months. These actually greatly delay the promotion from GEO2 to 3. Guys wait 1 year to promote after that while girls wait for 2 years (even heard of cases whereby the "cohort promotion" is starting to get delayed for some, not sure why).
From GEO3 to 4, things become a lot more uncertain. Now it probably takes an average of 4-6 years.
From GEO4 to 5, the squeeze is even worse. The above poster could make it within 5 years or less due to getting a KP position, which are kinda non existent now unless you are a scholar or a high performer who opts for cross level deployment. Either those, or you have to be very lucky.
To compare:
Last time, GEO1.1 to GEO1A1 - 2 years (including contract + NIE)
Now, GEO2 to GEO3 - 3.5 years (1 year contract + 1y 4mths NIE + 1 year wait for guys. Even longer for girls)
Last time, GEO1A1 to GEO1A2 - 2 to 3 years
Now, GEO3 to GEO4 - 4 to 6 years (scholars/high performers can do so in 3 years, but I've heard many recent horror stories for people stuck for 7 years or more)
No one dares to imagine the current timeline for GEO4 to GEO5, or even GEO5 to SEO1.
Just painting a realistic idea of how things are like for aspiring or new officers. Be mentally prepared.
