You will start with $4340. After graduation from NIE you will get $4500.
Within 3 years, you will get about $6k and if your performance is reasonable.. (no need to be that good), you will get $7k within 5 years.

If you take up leadership position, it will increase from there... hope I answered your query....
I am another poster.

What made u switch career? Do u think it’s worthwhile making the career switch despite a significant paycut.

Is MOE looking for particular qualification or specialised subj in their recruitment?
How is the workload?

I am contemplating whether to switch, also mid career.

I get horny very easily in school when I see the nubile young girls passing by (I teach in a IP school), to the extent I once hired a 19-year-old escort to service me.

This is probably one of the best jobs in the world...
Be careful. My jc teacher kenna caught for patronising <18 yrs commercial sex worker.
Make sure your 19yrs commercial sex worker is indeed 19. Later is 17 than you can have some fun in prison.

From legal standpoint, what you do outside school is entirely your own business.

It is not uncommon for male teachers

Hi, I m about to start my teaching stint soon.
I like teaching but dislike organising events and can't stay back late often. Is it OK to reject if I am being asked to organise events or lead in some committee?
I dun mind bringing work home or staying back late sometimes for cca or remedial, but is going home on time generally (I dun mean I shoot out of the gate once the bell rings) a taboo?

Yes. On paper when school bell rings at 1pm to 2pm you can go home.
In practice, teachers are expected to do CCA, organise events and camps and stay till 5pm.

I joined teaching in 2004. Currently, I am a SEO for the third year. Out of my whole career, I got C+ twice when I got posted to HQ I am not a scholar but I would assume my CEP is relatively high. My P did not tell me my CEP but he did share that my CEP was the highest among all KP in the cluster (CEP of cluster is decided at the cluster level).

For those of you who are keen to pursue the leadership track, you need to have the stamina. Honestly, right now, I feel jaded because I know I will remain a KP till I retire. Work only increases. I kinda envy the GEO 5 teachers who have less responsibilities and get to go home early. My average working hours are at least 12 hours on weekdays. Most times, I need to bring work home. My current school gives me alot of responsibilities because backend SLs would know my CEP which I assume would be higher than the rest of the KPs in my current school as well. I have an advantage as well because I am a HOD and there are a number of the SHs in my school who are also SEO1. So in a way, my ranking will be on top of them due to the nature of my work. But alot of times, its just the able and willing who gets more work. The additional bonus I get from my Bs does not make me happy.

The whole promotion pathways are now stuck as there are too few vacancies and if there are, they are usually reserved for scholars. So those who are not scholars will hardly stand a chance. For those of you who have seen the list of Ps which usually comes out when P rotates schools, there are only 3 VPs who got promoted to become P. So progression for VPs are also slower.

And I would also like to share for two officers producing the same quality of work, the one with the higher CEP will be ranked above so that his promotion will be faster so that you can reach your CEP when you retire (better grade = better performance). So yes, CEP quickens your promotion and at the same time, gives you an edge for your ranking.
cant you become a full-time tutor and earn the same/more with substantially less stress

Then it's better for you to resign.. Staying back till 5pm is pretty common.

Technically he doesnt have to resign. He can just be a “condemned” teacher that only teach.
So just rank low during performance review.

But can scrape thru still.

A lot of lao jiao cher also can go home early but they lao jiao. No one dare to touch them too much. New bird go home early and not take up any appointment is less heard of

When does our salary come in each month? Is it at the beginning of the month for the previous month's work, or the beginning of the month for the current month? Starting work this July and need to do proper financial planning like insurance, giving parents money etc.

To me, well... it has been worthwhile because i see meaning in what i do.
In terms of workload, previously, I used to be in senior management, I was usually free to do strategic thinking and most of the daily work is handled by my teams. I only feel stressed when there is a "crisis". In schools, it is the other way round, you will find yourself busy non-stop with work with not much of Crisis situations. There is also less politics involved in schools compared to private sector . As long as you get along with colleagues and students, all should be fine.

Having said that, I know of mid-careers who think they are good to end up hating their shift to teaching. You have to remember, you are no longer the technical expert in this field when you join teaching... so remember to be humble....
