Back then I considered MAP programs in banks but was told that banks have a political working environment and progression is unclear. I was previously an audit intern and was told that big 4 audit has better career progression and this went along with that idea.

Guess I drank the kool aid.

Bank is more political for sure, and you have to put in effort to get your final placement. That being says, remuneration wise even without considering the hours, banks would have been a lot better.

First year associate? Please wait for a few more years. You can probably try to aim for a secondment to other functions in 2nd year senior - manager. Most people get such opportunities in their AM - manager year. It is neither that your YOE in department A is valuable nor the company is being nice and want to enable internal mobility.

Secondment to overseas, or from audit> tax and vice versa could be more common and that typically happens in first year manager year. Besides the usual overseas secondment, secondment to other functions (advisory) is more of a carrot to entice the person to give 1 more year of hard work. The thinking is that if you have been a good employee, why not con you to stay another year and see if we can keep you within the firm.

Typically, this may depend on a few things: (1) The other team is ok with giving you a chance, (2) you are ok with the terms and conditions. Might see grade/pay progression stalling depending on the function you went to, (3) You are in a big enough job with a powerful enough partner, and the team needs you that year for whatever reason.

I have seen partner promised (and eventually delivered) secondment to "more prestigious" functions like corporate finance after the person gave notice. But this is rare. Usually, it needs you to be good enough + long waiting time (audit dept is not gonna release you easily) + passing the interview at the other team.

Understand that for tax, the ranking of Big 4 is EY > KPMG > PwC > Deloitte

Currently have an offer from Deloitte Corporate Tax. But Is Deloitte really that bad for tax?

You cannot accept the offers that you do not have. Go with what you have.

All big4 do the same work. Usual more of a case of maybe less clients? At least you never see people whining about Deloitte here. :P

Possible to transfer within 6 months? Somemore there is also a lack of manpower (audit > tax or vice versa) so why can’t con people to transfer instead of ppl leaving to fulfill their experience.

Anyone knows how long does it take to hear back from orange?(after virtual interview session with senior manager)
Also, does it mean anything if the senior manager said something along the lines of " to be honest, when I saw your resume, I didn't want to have an interview slot with you at all. However after interviewing you, you taught me to not judge a person by its resume. Hope to see you in PwC Singapore in second half of 2022"

Does the closure from the senior manager in that interview actually meant that I made it through or its just a hopeful/"nice guy" closure?

It should be a positive outcome. Can't remember how fast big4 gets back to people. Not very fast from my vague memory.

What function is this anyway? The SM sounds like a douchebag though. Even if you have a positive spin, you don't say such douche-ish stuff in an interview
