On stagnant. Investment role is the most "stagnant role", although I am quite happy with it. I am doing similar work since day 1 after series of change of title/firm/pay.
Investment peeps also tend not to waste their time in on more managerial stuff/projects/initiatives/others. But if you want to move to certain positions (head of smth, country head, etc), those are the things that you need to do.

Agree, look at all the AM firms' country and regional heads. They are all from sales. Schroders, JPM AM, Blackrock, etc. I've never came across an AM head which isn't from sales.

Agree! Generally the investment people don't get too caught up with day to day running of the business and rather focus on returns and markets

Exit to family office is ok if you're closer to the end of your career otherwise if you're young, you'll just hentak kaki and very hard to get back to buyside.
