Can someone shed rough estimates how much one can expect for
PAX6
PAX5
PB is in March, Merit Increment is in July

my situation was a little different. I was called up 2 days after 1st interview. Then attend 2nd interview after 2 weeks. Immediate head is keen to hire me but now it's up to Director to decide and approve. Not sure if I had asked too many qns that day. Basically only director and me were talking.

Has anyone of you tried calling HR before the 2 weeks after second interview to check on the status? Would you suggest I wait for 2 weeks before I call the HR?

I have a PhD degree and work in industry for more than 4 yrs. I've applied a lecturer position recently and will be interviewed for the first round.

Can anyone help to evaluate which grade I will be in and possible salary? Now I draw 5k only. Appropriate to ask for 6k?

Also any suggestion on interview preparation? Thanks!

My guess will be PAX5 and assuming if the school you're joining does not normally need a PhD (e.g. a Business or Engineering school), probably starting at $5K. If you had more work experience, then you might come in as PAX4 but I don't think your starting will be higher than $5K either - but at least you don't have to worry about promotion to the next grade if you came in as PAX5.

Thanks. I hope to see at least some increase from my current salary, or else I will be in a dilemma...I got some other opportunities in the industry which may offer around 6k...5k is somewhat low for a PhD with some industrial experience, isn't it?

My poly also pays PHD holders with < 10 years industry experience in the starting range of 5K.

If your main concern is $$, you should stay in the private sector.

The issue here is that your PhD might not be a requirement of the position you're applying for (though some schools offering applied sciences diplomas will benefit from them more than a technology school). What the school might need as a baseline is a Master degree, and industry experience is of more importance even then. Hence, the suggested pay of $5K might be a reflection of what the school feels is directly relevant and fair compensation (4 years), relative to what it's offering other persons of equivalent industry experience.

I am a cm and a hiring manager. We do actually try to match ur pte sector pay if ur experiences matches our required job level and internal equity. My most recent three had marginal pay increases and entered at snr lecturer levels. ie pax4/3. So better to job when there is an opening that can optimise ur experience.
