I used to be in this industry. I think all poly are pretty much the same as the senior mgt position is like musical chairs among them. Today I am the director fo xx sch at yy poly, tmr I will be senior director of zz sch at xyz poly. I guess this is the same with all stat board and ministries.

My poly not like that leh, I have good boss and fair director. I had good MI and balanced job scope. But I do agree that I can't go back to the industry. Anyway, industry can't match my pay....I once asked for annual 200k to headhunter who contact me, I told her to call me if anyone can match, based on my many years in industry...she never called back...haha

There are only so many polys. How many rounds of merry go round. Plus I got the sense they are pretty competitive (against other polys). Perhaps not entirely true what is said here.

Actually I don't know which poly you are talking about but at my poly, things are so stable. Directors stay for many years! Even the Principal has been around since 2002!

hahaha.. i know which poly liao. Only one poly has changed principal after 2002..
it is also the only poly that doesn't offer tenure appointment and staff are all on contract.
but to be fair, this polytechnic in the north has really changed overnight.
from the last ranked polytechnic, it has overtaken its rivals to become number 3 from number 5 in two years.
agree that this "reputable" polytechnic is known for it's high turn-over and 'private sector' culture (part due to the fact that most of it's senior management and most corporate staff come from private sector, or high stress (aka Philip Yeo run) stat boards like EDB, AStar), but the staff are given the option to work from home once a week (you can even find this on their career website) when they have no classes.
I also disagree that polytechnics do not allow each other to poach. I have been a lecturer in 2 polys, and I never had any issue moving over.
this behaviour does not make sense as it undermines the initial concept of privatisation and the creation of stat boards in the 1st place. I have heard the rumour before, and all i can say is that it is just a rumour. If you are good, the other side will take you.

Senior mgt such as diretors and principal will change after certain period of time as it is the gov practice to prevent people from being in a position at the same place for too long to prevent corruption and neopotism.
