any insights on trade finance/transaction banking as a career. Does it pay well as compared to buy side investment jobs?

Foreign bank, working in the IB department currently. MD level, current pay is 1.7m per annum. Sorry to say , local banks can't really afford to pay much.

I beg to differ, if there is no trade finance, all the raw materials and commodities will not be circulating around the world anymore

I feel trade finance will still be around in banking no matter what, just that it will become less relevant and attractive in the near future due to digitalisation. Most banks are trimming their trade financing business.
