Before you guys decide to become a LAE I guess a lot of the newbies don't know what shitty work LAE do to get that pay. And if you are not ready to get down and dirty please reconsider. It also all depends if you are working in the Line or Base where LAE are required to do different work. Not to mention the shift work that is required of you.So all those degree holder think twice if you are looking for a glam job this is not for you.

I suggest you don't waste money take CAAS paper. unless you want to become certified technician in SIAEC (which you should take CAT A paper) or go ST aero to be LAE (which I don't know after you grad still got slot for you)

As a diploma holder you can no longer become an LAE in SIAEC. You may want to go uni then decide wan to take CAAS paper or not.

The general idea is that SIAEC LAEs know nuts about the aircraft, since their aircrafts are very new and generally still under "warranty" from Boeing/ Airbus, Can any SIAEC LAEs tell me if this mentality is true?

That being said, ST LAEs may have more chance for hands on, but pay wise is **** if u go through the apprenticeship program...

and by knowing nuts, I mean hands on wise, since from what i heard during their apprenticeship they simply observe technicians do work and do not get down to do them.

2)Bro I am a B2 license holder, it is not true that it is a cleaner job, I ask u, which area of the aircraft not powered or control by electrical wires, flap, slats, oil pump, wheel well, wheels, gears .... and u expect this area to be oil free, dirt free. In order to access these system to do wiring chk, u still hav to climb, crawl, lie down ... u name it. And they dun give a damn day or night, got defect, pls do!
I sincerely advice u not to join...

3) I advice u to take a degree as me and my peers are stuck, we are now trying ways to complete a degree as LAE(running shift how to study part time??) now no prospect, no money(now cutting cost, the shift pattern already so disgusting, if u still wanna/can come back for OT, u are a robot!), no life(eat, sleep, wake up work,.. All this without OT, jus normal shift), no friends(eat, sleep, work), if u still havent found a galfren(all males environment, unless u like same sex...), then be prepared to buy a foreign bride(where got time to dating, cabin crew also see u no up).
I sincerely advice u not to join...

4) Being a LAE does not give u the advantage, in fact u hav to complete the bond or resign from SIAEC then apply for pilot...
Go get a degree and take up pilot direct, u wanna drive ferrari or repair ferrari...???

5) Money is good for those senior LAE, now the newer ones hav to suffer due to worst shift pattern(keep changing new shift pattern to squeeze u dry), cheaper better faster, shortage of manpower, equipment, resources....
My peers LAE keep asking one another is it our karma or we did something very bad in our past life, if not why we end up here, wanna leave still got 2 more years of bond...

6) I wasted 10mins of my precious off day to give u a sincere advice, asking u not to join so u will not suffer like us, if u insist, then u also maybe have a bad karma like us...
I sincerely advice u not to join...

Hi, since you are already in, can you enlighten me on some of these.. I'm very interested to join, so gathering some info but these terms are used loosely in the forum, dont kinda get what it means..

1) Type rating is the same as b1/b2/c license ? What exactly do they mean..

2) Line vs Base..?

In simple layman term
B1 - Mechanical Trade (Airframe, Engine and Electrical)
B2 - Avionics Trade (Electrical, Instruments and Radio)
C - Maintenance Release (Foreman or Manager)

2) Line vs Base..?
Line - light maintenance (Refueling, walk around check, servicing, tire change) normally at departure gates or ramps
Base - Heavy maintenance normally inside Hangar environment
