For a ministry, the DD cap is about $11K. I am not sure about stat boards DD, some of them are very old. However, I believe they are not paid as well as ministry's staff because staff eg directors from ministries, when seconded to stat boards, become Assistant Chief executives instead of directors/senior directors.

AD pay is about $4-$6K, but in good times, maybe slightly more.

you are basing it solely on ministries.
ministries suffer from title inflation where pretty junior staff can have high designations (but low salary)

in stat boards, eg DSTA, EDB and educational institutes (polytechnics, ite, universities) the titles are not inflated. These people are rarely hired fresh from a 1st degree. hence the salaries are higher for the same post.

aka a Asst Dir in one of the mentioned stat boards would likely earn more than a Asst Dir in a ministry.

Default Comparing stat boards' salaries

Hi, read all 450 replies - which have given me a better understanding of the public sector pay system.

One question please: Which stat board do you think is a good employer, compared with other stat boards and ministries? Setting aside the specialist boards requiring scientific/medical degrees, which stat boards pay best, for the equivalent deputy director and divisional director positions?

Also, stat board staff are not officially considered part of the civil service. Do they also get the extra months' bonus that are announced each year?

Thanks!

Default bachips his

there's no such thing as "best stat board". all salary r fixed to market rate. how much u get depends on ur job scope n functions, n how do u perceive working in your environment.

u wan high pay can try saf or mindef... they pump in enormous defence budget every year so you can expect bonus or extra allowances depending on opportunities given to u

No. Stat boards got own HR policy. But some follow civil service though.

Entry-level superscale is not so high. In any case, it's misleading to talk about superscale nowadays. Going back to history, the SO scheme (where the upper grades are known as superscale grades) in the civil service has been replaced by the MX scheme a number of years back. The lowest superscale was mapped over to MX 9. The current starting pay of MX 9 is I believe about 11k.

Really? I'm in private sector and assumed all stat boards pay bonuses at civil service levels, with the announcements benefitting them too.

Can people share which stat board pays how many months' bonus this year pls? EDB? HDB? IE? URA?

stat boards have autonomy and can decide a lot of their own processes.
as such, they have also been known to compete among each other for talent.

the 2 main areas that have pretty good remunerations are in the areas of Education and Defence, the areas that take up a huge chunk of our national budget.

For Education, NUS, NTU, SMU and the Polytechnics are stat boards under the broader MOE unbrella, and they have been known to compete among themselves for staff. also, they need to compete with many private sector organisations like Kaplan, SIM, MDIS, PSB academy for talent so the area of salaries in that are pretty competitive as they have to fight a large brain drain.

For Defence, it is integral. DSO and DSTA have also been known to pay well, this is due to confidentiality and skill needed to do the task.
