I refer to my previous post and decided to raise another query after poring through all entries in this thread.
Do I need to be mindful of the inherent job grades associated with the job vacancies during my application in order to be considered for a post that is commensurate with my experience?
For instance, if I were to unwittingly submit my application for an entry level post, which sometimes might not be readily discernible from the appointment title, does that imply that any offer given would definitely pegged to the MX13/12 level, or would it be adjusted according to my years of working experience?

I'm in the midst of considering a mid-career switch to the public service.
Having experienced the vicissitudes of my career progression in the private sector, where I've been short changed, thrown into the deep end of the pool and left to my own devices in an extremely stagnant environment, the stability and security of a public service career appeals to me.
My background:
- Diploma with Merit in Mechanical Engineering (Top student, received LKY Award).
- Overseas scholarship awarded by a statutory board in collaboration with an industry partner.
- 1st Class BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering UMIST, UK. (Top student, top university project).
- MSc Mechanical Engineering, NUS.
- Original arrangement was for me to serve my 6 year bond with the said industry partner. However, they decided to cease their operations in Singapore before my graduation. At that juncture, the statutory board immediately intervened and I made a conscious decision to have my bond transferred to a semiconductor company for industrial exposure and practice instead of taking up the offer to join the statutory board.
- Spent 6 years engaging in semiconductor technology development and systems strategy and design.
- Current annual package is a very modest $55000 (includes AWS + less than 2 months bonus).
- Now exploring public service opportunities in policy formulation, organisational development or research and analysis.
Queries
1) Would my background and experience be deemed unattractive or irrelevant to public agencies?
2) Also, I would like to hear everyone's comments on whether my current unattractive package would undermine the terms of any offer that I might receive from the public service agencies.
3) What would be the likely job grade and pay package that I should expect?
Cheers & Thanks!

I'm not sure about others, but for the stat board I'm in does offer grades and salary according to experience.
When i just join, I saw a lady applied same job position and because of her past experience and was offered the senior position. Before that she was from a private company.

Culture shock in civil service
I was previously from a private company that was pretty fast paced and i can run things pretty much on my own as long as work gets done smoothly.
Recently, I joined a ministry and have been there for about a few months already. Still under culture shock and having a tough time adjusting to the top-down hierarchy, the slower pace of work and the quietness (dullness??) of the work environment.... just wondering if it is a norm for new civil servants, who were previously from pte sector, to experience culture shock for a period of time?
Any1 who couldn't adapt to the civil service environment and returned back to pte sector in a short span of time?
Thanks for the sharing!

Seriously... After asking so many questions, you still have not taken any action. In life one cannot expect to know everything beforehand. You must DO and not just sit around thinking of hypothetical scenarios. The outcome for each individual person would be unique to your experience and circumstances.
Just apply. Then you will know what you are worth and what to do about it.
