By that do you mean the MX scheme? If so then the disparity with other places is quite large!

Is it true that the basic AL for civil servants is 18 days? Even at manager or senior manager level? Will it increase if u become AD? Or it only increases by years of service?

Thanks

Default It seems like my only option is to sign on. But do u think i should?

Hi all,
I would like to start out this post by giving a brief introduction about myself.
Unlike most posters here, i am only still a diploma holder in Finance at the current age of 27 y/o. I have always been playful and never really had the guidance from parents nor peers int he career paths that i should take etc. Thus i have been job hoping since i completed my NS. My last drawn is $2500 in a finance related role in a pte company and i knew the role offered very little progression, if any at all. In my role, I was able to see numerous income statements of individuals and only then did i realise that i should be aspiring for more in life. Especially in terms of income.
In addition, i am aware that a background in finance does very little in comparison to STEM related qualifications and know that i offer very little in terms of finance to the marketplace.
I do have a flair for administrative roles, and have received numerous testimonials that i include in my resumes when applying for jobs.
But..
To cut the post short, i have since applied for a uniformed role (SGT2) and have been appointed and offered a starting salary of $2.5K+.
I would sincerely like to ask for genuine career advice from individuals who have experienced my situation or know of people in my situation.

Should i take the uniformed role? (I am not ultra passionate about it, like some individuals would make believe, but more so, i need to be realistic since i am already 27, and in need of steady progression in my career.)

Another concern i have though, is that i have applied for stat board admin roles. Assuming if i am offered those roles as well with similar starting pay,
should i choose this over the uniformed role?
Since the skills are more transferable in the marketplace and the exposure to learning opportunities is significantly higher.

For posters who take the time to reply, i just want to thank you for taking the time beforehand.

Sincerely,
Failedinlife

I mean to say that I am in the specialised scheme listed above. Yes it is a large difference but understandable given how few people are hired annually and how prestigious the scheme in (also given the hours and demands of the job).

2018, my NTU friend social science FCH, MCI offered him $3.8k monthly gross basic.

A social science NTU friend FCH got a job at MFA this year, said his gross monthly basic around $4.5k. So I think it really is close to $5k gross basic.

First year on probation, but HR told me 99% chance will be emplaced, cos you by then already know how things work etc. Unless you screw up really really really big time somehow lah.

So basically after/during first year will be emplaced (converted to permanent) 99% chance.

Remuneration can vary from person to person but for males with NS and FCH (although virtually everyone there has a FCH with some kind of scholarship or award to their name - if not an Ivy League / Oxbridge degree), the typical starting pay for the Foreign Service is several hundreds more than the amount your friend shared - so you can work out the figure from there.

This also excludes the usual gamut of allowances accorded to a FSO, which can be rather substantial.

Noting this, the Foreign Service is perhaps the only scheme outside of the Legal Service that is adequately remunerated to attract law graduates - and indeed, a significant proportion of the candidates who enter the Foreign Service are lawyers.

Having said this, we are talking about possibly the most prestigious and challenging position civil service-wide - by far (I say this having had the benefit of undergoing selections at many other Ministries). The annual intake numbers can be smaller than half your primary school class.

The work (and the hours!) is also not for the faint of heart as they deal with real world issues which impact our everyday lives at a level unimaginable to the lay person.
