Can I ask if civil service offers are usually underwhelming? 6 years experience in pte and got an offer from a stat board.
They offered $4.8k which is a huge margin below my current salary, not to say my expected salary. Should I even attempt to negotiate? The HR said the offer is based on a matrix based on my years of experience.

Same got offer from stat board with 6 years pte exp. Current salary already low, offer not even close to my expected. Starting grade is like fresh grad...is it normal for civil service to do this to people from pte?

just take the offer, dont need to think. u can thank me later.
why i say this?
- it's covid19 period now, very very difficult to land interviews let alone offers
- Civil Service is considered iron rice bowl for life/retirement, if u dun screw up and/or commit any offences
- it's practically unheard of for local diploma holders to break 4k salary barrier before the age of 35yo. furthermore u are private dip holder
note, u shld ask your employer is this a contractual role or 1 that u will be emplaced on perm scheme after passing your probation.

I am from engineering sector with 8 years experience. Gotten my part time degree in 2019. Currently drawing $3.9k monthly (exclude AWS + 2.5 months bonus).
I have applied for a few jobs in CS, so I am wondering is asking for $4.5k too much?
