You can save and invest more money at younger age.
Errmmm... Buying a condo is also an investment. More upside than HDB. High risks high returns. You obviously need to know more about investing.

35 y/o, not married & no kids
debt-free
salary pa $300K basic + ~$100k bonuses (manufacturing/sales)
about $12k passive dividend income
don't own a house or car

At an interesting stage in life now: while I have a good income now , just eiight years ago I was earning ~$40K pa with ~$15k in debts. So I haven't had much time to build up a nest egg or get my own place yet. Still don't feel very "secure" financially, because I remember the tough times before very clearly. Trying to make the smartest moves I can to take advantage of the good times while they're here, because I know it might not always be so.

Just curious, how much are you paying in income tax? And which NS unit are you serving in?

I don't serve in NS, as I'm not a Singaporean. I'm here under a PEP pass.

The tax last year was around $40k, but will be higher this year ($50-55k I think)

My wife and I earn a total of $150k per year. We are in our early 50s. We live in a HDB flat which is fully paid up last year. We want to upgrade to a condo but afraid to do so. Our flat is only worth $500k after the cooling measures. We don't have much CPF or cash. Should we upgrade? We aspire to be like our friends, who mostly live in nice private condos. Please advise.

Condo living is definitely great, but your combined income of $150k (or $10k pm without bonus) should qualify you for EC. EC is good value for money.

My friends stay in PC, not EC. I want PC, not EC.
