We are both 53 yo, planning to retire at 55.
When we reach 55, we will get our CPF ($200k). We will also put money in CPF Life Enhanced Retirement Sum. We also have other sources of passive income. In total our passive income $70k pa from 65 yo onwards.

To fund our retirement from 55 yo to 65 yo, we need cash. We can sell our condo for $1.1 mil and buy a 4 room HDB flat ($500k), which will give us a net cash of $600k. Our CPF $200k. So we have cash $800k. We will need about $400k for the ten years ($40k pa).

Looking forward to retiring at 55. There is no need to work until 65 to 70 yo. Some people die in their 50s and 60s. There’s no guarantee we won’t be one of them. Work so hard and never get to enjoy retirement. So sad.

When we die we will leave behind for our children our HDB flat, cash, stocks and life insurance payout.

Good plan. Many people downgrade their homes to retire. You are lucky to own an expensive condo to monetise and retire early. FIRE is now popular

65 yo retired couple earning a passive income of $5k pm ($60k pa) from CPF Life, dividends and children’s monthly contributions. Children grown up and working. Home is paid up. Debt free. No car. Spends $4k pm. Saves $1k pm.

Retirement activities include morning exercises, breakfast at nearby coffee shop, volunteering at charities, reading, watching movies and traveling during off peak seasons. Lots of interesting places to visit before getting too old.

Next year I will be 55. I will set aside $309k for my CPF Life Enhanced Retirement Sun (ERS) so that I will receive $2500 pm at 65.

I will also retire next year as I have $500k (cash + CPF) for me to spend from 55 to 65. I will not spend the whole amount. I expect to spend $30k pa in retirement.

My 3 bedroom luxury condominium unit is fully paid up and I am debt free.

My CPF Life and condo are my retirement assets.

Although I’m not rich, I consider myself lucky and successful in life.

Time for me to relax next year. I’ve been working so hard for a long time.
