my wife are i are 50 and 53 years old respectively. our combined income is $200k pa. we are living in a penthouse unit, no more loan. we are excited of the HSR. when it is ready in 2020, we plan to sell our penthouse for $2m and retire in either KL or malacca. with $2m, we get about RM5.2m, which is more than enough for us to lead a luxurious retirement. we can visit our son once a fortnight via the HSR.

45, $124k pa. Saves $22k pa.
Wife, 42, $112 pa. Saves $34k pa.
Combined cash and CPF savings $600k.
4 room HDB flat paid up, in process of selling.
Upgrading to a condo, near an MRT station.
Selling car and taking MRT to work in CBD.
From MRT station to CBD takes only 30 mins, if I drive takes 1 hour due to traffic jam.

Married couple in forties, earn a combined income of about S$176k pa.
Lives in a condo worth $1m, mortgage outstanding $250k.
Current net worth about $2.6m (including CPF, cash and other assets).

Retirement strategy at 65 years old:

1. Sell condo and get cash.
2. Buy the BTO HDB studio unit for elderly for $70k (with 30 years lease).
3. Retire with cash and other assets, worth maybe about $4m when we reach 65. S$4m should be enough to last at least 30 years. If not enough, we will retire in Malaysia or Thailand.

Which MRT station? To be sure, you have to take the MRT during the morning rush hour to see if it really takes 30 mins.

Question

Everybody thinks the same way to off load their property when they are old, and cash it for a comfortable retirement.

It will be interesting to see with the flood of people selling their condos, who will be there to buy over their properties...

There will be buyers. 6.9m coming.

After that we will have 10m, 15m 20m .... as Singapore will be the most advanced Asian city in the world.

We are a husband and wife team who is your typical Singaporean couple (50 & 54) earning a combined income of $7k per month. We are happy as we bought our BTO HDB flat cheap and now no more loan.

We look forward to the HSR project as now we can retire in KL and easily travel to Singapore to visit our children. When we reach 65, we can sell our HDB flat for $1m (now it is worth $700k) and can retire with cash of about RM3m. In Singapore, we are nobody but in Malaysia we are millionaires. We are happy with our investment in our HDB flat we bought many years ago.
