that 2 kind in almost all company

1. starting pay low, yearly increment high, pay higher bonus (usually in business roles)
2. starting high, yearly increment slow, pay lesser bonus (usually in engine/IT)

public sector belong to number 2.

if you know your company is starting low, yearly also low.. then u can might as well jump.

anyway must think far ahead. do not compare current salary instead compare 5yrs later with your peer. who go further?

Can anyone share stories of some who jump a lot. How many years of working experience compare with how many job change against current salary.

I personally feel that at point of time, you should job change for better prospect but salary is not the primary consideration. Moreover, it is important that you able to gain adequate knowledge and experience before thinking of changing job.

For the benefits of others, may u list down first to third job
First job role - number of years - starting salary
Second job role - number of years - starting salary
Third job role -number of years - starting salary

Why do you think you are offered basic $5300/month? Is it specific skill set that you attained from your previous jobs?

based on this i think i must really jump. 1 of my colleagues who has been working for 2 years+ only got $400+ increment in total. of course, unless he lied. ur 5 yrs later includes job hopping?

I am on the side of Job Hopping.

Main reason is low growth prospect. You already know your company has slow increment then it's time to jump. I believe your company has already factored high turn over into their business model, so there is no point hoping they will suddenly have a change of heart and increase your job prospect.

It's a sad but true culture in Singapore, where employees that are loyal and stay longer are worse off than employees who job hop every two years. We all heard stories of bosses suddenly throw money at you when you tender your resignation. My old boss even offered instant promotions when 2 of my colleagues tender their resignations.

Word of advice: Never stay even if the boss throws money and promotion at you. They may not show it, but subconsciously they will hate you for making them beg you to stay. It may not end well. Once you tender, just go and don't turn back.

Yes, makes me angry that the boss can suppress your salary year after year. And when you had it and tender your letter, suddenly the company values you. What rubbish!

Job 1 - 9 months - 3.2k
Job 2 - 14 months - 3.9k (start) 4.2k (increase)
Job 3 - 11 months current - 5.3k

Hoping my next jump can hit 7k. My plan is to hit 20k before 40yo then just settle down in whatever job.

That is close to three years of experience. Nonetheless is the great progression u got there. Just want to understand how many months bonus did u get for those years?
