continue ite or go private
Hi fellow members of Salary.sg
I kinda need some advice , I am 21 this year just started my ite course in marine offshore ( year one student ) I completed my national service already , but my peers tell me to don't waste. My time and go get a private dip , but how?
My first term results are quite good ... Top 10% of co horde 2 As one distinction ,
maybe some one can give me advice , is marine offshore a bad choice?
My dream is to be working high level in keppel FLES ...

Continue to work hard and do well, and you will be selected to go into poly. ITE grads do extremely well in poly and you will be well liked by your lecturers, who will most definitely have strong links with the marine industry. Then when you are about to graduate, ask them to help you get good jobs in the industry.
Good luck.

In your case, I would suggest you work and get some experience, and later on get a dip / degree.
This is so that you will have money in your bank, and when you go for your course, you will be genuinely learning. Students who never work ask questions to pass exams (waste of time). Students who have worked before, ask questions that will really benefit them.
Secondly, there's no guarantee that getting a diploma or degree will immediately assure you of higher payer. The piece of paper just means you have a higher ceiling; someday you can reach manager instead of supervisor level. But the operative words are "some day".
But that said, education does make a difference in median income.
In the meantime, make sure you negotiate the highest salary possible hor. No dip / degree doesn't mean you must work for peanuts:

Continue to excel in your NITEC course. There are real-life cases where top ITE students are doing very well at work and went on to further study and advance their career within the company.
Here are some scholarships, diplomas & degree programs for your reference for your reference:
Sembcorp Marine - Scholarship
Education & Courses
Association Of Singapore Marine Industries - Marine Scholarships
When you talk about advancement to high levels, I supposed you're talking abt Senior or Top Management level... It's great that you have such ambitions =)
have a good foundation, know your basics and know how the whole industry operates and functions...and further your education if there is a requirement for your career advancement...
All the best!!!

Hi..
My path is similar to yours. I did badly for my Olvl.. when to Higher NITEC after that.. then 2 yrs NS in the Army.. after i ORD then i go study poly with a sponcership form the Air Force. I graduated from NYP at age of 25. yes.. not young.. however i did quite well in poly. got 3.75 GPA.. my advice to u is to continue studying in ITE since you are doing well. and since its only a 2 yrs course and u already completed 0.5... continue to do well and get into a local poly and maybe a degree next time.
