Once u pass mmed u are conferred fellowship.

Then make all mbbs md graduates later 2022 to have minimally fellowship to practice.

If not they have to work in the hospital.
All other specialties take foreign exam eg UK.
Why not Fam Med?
If you argue that local standards is good enough then why jot other specialties also take just local exams?
There is a double standard. You must look back history why.

MRCS?
Only Fam med do local exam only. Mmed. No need any foreign exam.
All other specialties take foreign exam.
I was told the GP side of things is cos in 1970s many migrated to Australia. Used to be GP also take MRCGP or FRACGP. MOH invited foreign examiners. But later all recognized easy for brain drain. So MOH stopped. Ng
The day no kow tow is when IM and surgeons all take MMED local exams only no foreign exams needed. You dont see Drs from Australia or Canada or USA or UK needing to take foreiģn exams.
erm. medical side all exit exam is local. where got take overseas one? only intermediate take mrcp or mrchc but now requirement is must take conjoint m.med also, cannot solo mrcp like last time if u take in sg.
the mrcp is left only to facilitate hmdp so that when these speciliast go UK , they can register on GMC easily.
that's the real reason it's left around. fyi, sg mrcp once a year 70 plus spot at nuh is organised by local examiner, local patient. only 1 chef examiner from royal college come bless nia.

only surgery go take FRCS but u still need to pass local m.med surg with dessertion. some exams like ent only do mcq can liao

fp side is we don't have a m.med fam med until 80s. u go colleague website and read the history.
sg never take mrcgp or fracgp before. pure m.med fam med from the start. 2003 started fellowship. 2007 start gdfm or somewhere around there.

and
.know thy difference between gp and fp. in sg , gp not a protected tittle. a cardiologist can call himself a gp if he wants but he cannot call himself a fp If he is not on the register.

Point is sg most specialties need take foreign exam. You can call it intermediary. You can downplay saying local organized but foreigner come bless nia.
Point is why still need the foreign influence? Fam med is 100% local.

Things have changed in sg. It is good that the fam med is getting more recognition.
But remember this is only on the academic end. The patients themselves dont chup wan. $$$ is big on their minds. Too expensive they say no dont care you fp or gp.
Work polyclinic easy to say follow guidelines. But pte can kena acolding. Even polyclinic also some patient will scold eg they bring maid there.

To facilitate HMDP? So is still somewhat kow tow to foreign la.
SG specialists no need go HMDP la. local specialist all good enough. And it should be the privilege of those foreign hospital to welcome SG specialists to go teach them.
SG is the best!

m.med as intermediate. fellowship as final exit exam become fam med specialist.
same as other speciality.

For the public to recognize fm as a specialty fp register must be removed.
Since other specialty don’t have a separate register.
Just a single sab.

Meaning
Cardiologist is cardiologist specialist
In Singapore with the fp register , family physician isn’t equal to family physician specialist?

U cannot half bake mmed Surg then call ur self a surgeon
Means u cannot half bake mmed fam med then call yourself a fp.

What you mean half bake?

I get what you are saying though. Just like in other countries, most Family Physicians are specialists. Have done the training. Are recognized as specialists. Work and charge as fam med specialists.

Occasionally you get some foreign dr coming into the country through some area of need program where they allow them to work as GPs but are not recognized as specialists.

Bulk of family physicians are specialists.

In Sg is the opposite.

Would also like to add that Fam Medicine training and specialist qualifications should be a requirement to practice as a family physician.

SMC should abolish allowing anyone with an MBBS from working as a family physician setting up a clinic etc.

There should not be MRCS ENT trainees quit then become GP and call themselves fam physician also.

In other countries, if the specialist resident finish residency and cannot find a job eg Ortho or ENT they cannot just set up clinic and work as GP. They will need to apply to get into Fam Med Residency finish then get the qualifications to be able to be a fam physician.

That is what is TRUE Fam Med Specialty.

SG still caught in 3rd world country standard for family medicine.
Also clear 100% conflict of interest in having GP/FP also dispense and sell medicine.
Argument for convenience can be thrown out. All that needs is for pharmacy open nearby clinics. Let pharmacists dispense.
Powers that be....who is that?
