Current doctor here. Computer science is really hot now. My friends in CS starting pay is 7-8k which is way higher than ho/mo (and he is only 2nd class honours). How long that will last I don't know
Of course you could argue we are more recession proof etc,
But I think people (esp students who just finished A levels and choosing uni course) need to know Medicine is a safe career path, that brings food to the table but doesn't get you financial freedom unless you do asthestics..

I think the covid just proved it too. strange if people still want to do medicine. for the medical officer who complain of low pay--> no one force you to do medicine and limit your income
I think for most doctors,
Maximum salary cap is around 15-20k per month if you are fm/gp; 20-25k/month if you are specialist.
(excluding bonus). This is after many years of service (i.e senior fp/senior con level)

unless you are the exceptional few who set up your own chain of gp or asthestics clinics then can make it big.
.
Qn is, is that enough to survive or acheive financial freedom in Singapore and are you happy with that?

Sounds like majority of doctors in this chat group are not happy with that and cannot accept that medicine is now a third-rated degree. But dont accept also have to accept. I am glad that i did computer science. For the doctors, can continue working. Insurance also capping your income. I think most non medical people will be grateful to you for "sacrificing" yourself for the public good. Doctors need to continue to think this way so that society can take advantage of the goodness. We need a group of people so service us, those who can pay

This one must be one of those computing nerds who still carries a chip on his shoulder that CS used to be a dumping ground course.

The average doctor is still going to be better off than the average programmer. Good luck competing with cheap coders flooding the market from Vietnam and the Philippines in 5 years time.

if u like money so much u can still do the CFA exams level 1 and try to jump into high finance.

since u have the pedigree, im sure finance ppl are willing to welcome u after u pass at least level 1.

likewise for coding as well. there are those who didn't take a degree but learned coding part time or went for a boot camp

if u think thats where the money is, u can always pick up classes and coding and do up a portfolio and switch over.
