Would also like to know about those other specialties that I mentioned in my previous post (radiology, anaesthesiology), if anybody else has some insights to those 🙂
I would advise you not to rely on advice from this forum.
Cant you do postgrad training in Australia?

Well, I can, but I'm still torn between doing internship in Singapore and Australia. Therefore, would love to get all the insights that I can get.

Training in Australia would give you more options in SG and abroad for sure.

there are a lot of non doc crashing this forum la.
anyway, I was like u.
do ur internship in auzzie. cos u get their general registration at the end which u can maintain at 700 AUD every year
this let's u go back to work anytime in any rmo job and if u keen, New Zealand too. this has implication for permanent residency applications if u so is interested.
u come back to sg for internship, but our internship not recognised there, so even if u train to be a cardiologist here, u can't go back easily. u still need to undergo limited registration and do ur a&e , gen med and gen surg term before general registration. no need AMC exams cos u graduate from auzzie med school.

also, they pay their intern better, work their intern lesser. I made 3 times what a sg intern will make.
cons is when u come back as a baby mo in sg, oh boy are u in for a culture shock. u likely will struggle as u adapt which means u probably will not make the cut to apply for residency straight away (unlike me..but I was from a different era ) .all of which damn competitive now.

I say, do ur auzzie internship. maybe u meet a nice ang mo and maybe u will get a training spot there.
esp if ur parents are young-ish, no hurry to come back. my parents are old if not I would train in gen med there.

auzzie anaesthesia no con job in sg. even local trainee not guaranteed con job. might have to work as reg few years.
radiology also somewhat full.
fracgp not equivalent to sg mmed , u can't get ur con also.

FRACGP also not equivalent to MMed?
Is there any foreign FP fellowship or certification that is recognized by SG to be equivalent to MMed Fam Med?

Yes speaking as a doc. In fact a couple of my junior after completing fm residency applied go sport med. So doing their 3 years ast.

As the previous doc mention, fracgp not 100% equivalent to sg mmed. Coz sg mmed here think they so great.

My co ho is now a senior rad resident, from monash, but did HO in Singapore.
In fact i also had co HO from melbourne, now onco ac.

I do not necessarily think aussie grads are less adapted than nus grads in navigating the local system. It is more of intrinsic ability. After a month or two u be fine. I have seen very slow gs HO, myself included. That have to compensate and come at 4am and leave at 11pm post take.
But coz either they ocd, or slow.

If they efficient can come at 6am and leave at 7pm one.

But now residencies more competitive compared to 7 to 8years ago.

At the same time, my current colleague also has consultants that trained in aussie, got their fracp

I think times like this the only scientific way is to look at the stars/astrology/divinity/horoscope. There are no good solutions.

Agree with this poster. There is a big fam med troll in this doctor forum extolling the supposed superiority of fam med over other residencies, you can recognise him from phrases such as "But u need to get into the uber competitive top rate first class fam med residency in singapore."

Remember that the local fam med residency is not even recognised anywhere else in first world countries, better to train overseas in UK/US/AU/NZ and come back home to raise the local fam med standards producing trolls such as him. This fam med troll is likely a mmeder who either severely lacking in insight and self-awareness or wants to protect his own rice bowl.

I am currently mopex, thinking of doing fm work eventually. (Just completed gdfm, will Either aim for rp in ops or just go join a chain grp/locum once my peg bond finish)

Would like to ask seniors for their genuine opinion. (Not just fm, but all specialists, esp those involved in public health)

How would the new initiatives announced by minister Ong change the healthcare landscape in Singapore? (In terms of job opportunities, financial Remuneration and how hospitals function etc)

The 2 new initiatives I am referring to are mainly the capitation funding model and the "every Singapore to be registered with one gp" idea

I think the concept is largely modelled from overseas (esp UK) but do you guys think it will work in sg context? (I mean I am doing gm now, I can tell you we really investigate and refer a lot for very minor things, i.e a lot of defensive medicine. Also understand from my fm resident colleagues that pple in ops also sometimes demand to see specialist even for simple things that can be managed at ops)

I am just not sure the new initiatives will work out as sg pple are simply quite different (to put in a polite way) compared to UK pts from my personal experience. (Disclaimer I studied medicine in UK and worked as fy1 there)

A lot of my consultants are quite skeptical but was wondering what pple think (genuinely), and how will these affect our career choices ?
