i'm in marine ship/rig building industry. graduated from local university with 2nd class lower honors. i'm paid $2.8k p/m. but bonus is good which is 7 months. so my annual income shd be around 56k inclusive of aws but not including OT which is $7 per hour capped at 90 hours. i think i'm paid quite good compare to my peers working in other local glc and sme. but the increment i heard this year sucks which is about 3% only. do you think i shd stay in the industry?

How old are you? Are you a fresh grad? If so, pay is good. 3% is average for many industries.

Work from sales engineer to sales manager for electronics component/specialty material company for 10+ years, last drawn salary at 7k/mth just left this industry to venture on my own.
Electronics industry margins are so tight that they cant pay high salary to engineers.

I graduated as an engineer. Did a couple of years as a project engineer then move on to the commercial side of things.

I am now in a general management position. It is good for career progression to spend a few years in engineering right after graduation to learn things on the ground other than from the books. Then, find an opportunity to get into the commercial side. With commercial and technical knowledge combined, coupled with an MBA, I was able to accelerate my career.

At the 'general management' level, how much is the salary + bonus?

Other than oil/gas, offshore marine and plastic/chemical industry, the opportunity to earn decent wages of above 200k/yr ex bonus is sadly quite rare even at management level, according to many seniors i spoke to.

Whereas any Vice president level positions in banks are typically drawing this amount, such is the wide disparity .....
