Money talks. I know so many ex-classmates from SJI who didn’t do well in their o levels . They all went to concord bellerbys in the Uk for their a levels. All ended up studying in OxBridge/UCL/LSE for Law. Most are now practising in UK in MC firms, some are even in Latham/white.

Bear in mind, their academic accolades are not the best, all got 2:1s and pretty much partied throughout Law school

While I have to study like a dog to get into NUS Law, work like a dog in Law school with no fun. And yet now I can only settle for the Big 4.

What’s the point of trying so hard in the local system when there is clearly a shortcut???

life is inherently unfair. malaysian here, currently studying law at local uni T100 school (islamic law is hard), did an unpaid internship last semester, still can't find any pupillage as of today(TC in singapore). depressed every day and complaining on Reddit. You should feel fortunate to be able to make it into Singaporean Big 4. At least NUS law grads have good employment prospect. My law school doesn't even publish employment stats because of the high unemployment rate and most go into public interest/small firm litigation. Lol

I think the government will further cut down the number of overseas Uni due to those stupid plagiarism and sub standard quality of overseas grad. Gov will then focus on the new law school to force local graduates to enter to do criminal or family law.

Better to learn how to service water pipe/aircon as a technician if you are a Malaysian. Today my house water pipe leaking. Called the plumber. Costs like $600 just for repair of 2 bathrooms’ water pipes. Turns out he is a Malaysian who has his own water plumbing company. He came to Singapore at age of 17, worked hard until now age 32. Best way to be rich as Malaysian. Don’t even have to waste time and effort study. Just learn a valuable skill and you can strike it rich. Plumbers starting pay in Singapore is around $2500/month but can easily increase to >$10000/month after 10-15 years of experience.

Not too bad deal for a Malaysian.

Realistically, how many people have/know of people who've secured RLTs or TCs during their final year?

Whether you've secured a RLT/TC the year before at another firm, but decide to go to a different firm, or perhaps you decided to try your luck during this cycle?

At B4 it's possible if openings come up - every year there's a handful of UK grads who drop out because they get offers overseas. At mid-sized firms/JLVs recruitment can be a bit more ad hoc. Worth sending in your CV and cover letter imo

Will doing 3 years with AGC after graduation help with my career progression if i exit after that and join a private law firm?
