Lame la. More often than not is low hanging fruit. Only academics care about obscure areas.

Firms are all the same one, all rushing to write articles about the latest "legal developments", CA rejecting Cavendish test for liquidated damages clause, payment services act yada yada. No client will ever bother to read the upteenth case summary or article regurgitating the same thing from minlaw's press release.

What type of industry, what was your prior experience, and your previous draw salary? The pay is pegged to industry, if we don't have the details we can't help.

Base seems a bit low. For 3PQE inhouse counsel roles, think $8.5K or slightly higher for base would be a good benchmark, if you came from Big 4 or a good corporate mid tier firm.

At this junior level (below 5PQE), salary should more or less private practice payscale or at least not result in a significant haircut.

To the above poster: what about the pay for an inhouse counsel for a 3PQE with a disputes background?

Thanks in advance!

Depends which department / practice area you're applying into. If you're applying into a litigation department, whether or not it will move the needle will depend on whether or not the contents of the journal article(s) are relevant to the kind of litigation the department engages in. If not relevant, it will showcase your intellectual capabilities, but nothing more.

If you're applying into corporate department, generally corporate practitioners don't really care about whether or not your articles were published, or the fact that you wrote articles. Corporate practice is less about the cutting edge of the law, and more about securing the least legally risky position for your client for a particular transaction.

Note that securing a TC (barring some backward big4 hiring practices) depends on your fit in the team and how personable you are, not just your intellect.

No need b4 tc, a certain partner at a smaller outfit published a monthly salary of 150-200k. The old timer really got it easy with the gravy train
