I look forward to the day when NQ pay is S$3k across the board

£125k translates to about S$20k a month for NQ... Just saying.

Pushing down NQ pay to $3K (i.e. auditor level payscale) will never happen. As it is, law firms are already suffering from a severe attrition of senior associates at the midlevel. Good luck trying to find people willing to do legal saikang at auditors' salary scales.

The question now is not the lack of work, but the lack of able bodies to do it. Ask any Big 4 partner and they will tell you how difficult it is to find senior associates.
Maybe if they paid them and groom them for partnership they can find more

Lol old news. Should have seen UK legal commentators laughing at this pathetic attempt by a “top law firm” to PR (and fail) his way out of underpaying his associates.

Pinsent Masons isn't a top law firm by any means. Not even 'Silver Circle'. Maybe 'Bronze Circle' or 'Iron Circle' lol

If OP bothered to provide the entire article in context instead cherry picking one part of the article...

The senior partner is criticising the likes of Kirkland and WC which are paying NQ £100k upwards per annum. Pinson Mason are paying their NQ £70+k per annum which equates to £6k per month.

Not to mention that PM is hardly a 'top tier' law firm plus the article is old news. Good luck looking forward to the day when NQ pay is 3k you sheep.

10% or A- average, whichever is more. Always turns out to be 10% because an A- average is actually harder to attain than top 10%.

OP here. I dont think this is entirely accurate because ive seen individuals who did not make it onto overall DL (or did not get onto any years DL) but still got an overall first. Therefore this lead me to think whether there are more than 10% FCH per cohort

In that case I stand corrected - it used to be that 10% was lower (so the overall DL and FCH students overlapped entirely) but with the new S/U system (which was previously not open to law students), it might be possible that A- is actually a lower cutoff than 10% - so you would see students with FCH but not on the overall DL (which is a strict 10% cutoff).

It's the same thing. The top 10% is ALWAYS the FCH, not the 4.5 CAP. I'm a 2019 grad and for at least 2 batches before me and the most recent batch, there were people with a 4.35 to 4.40 CAP getting FCH. I got it myself with a 4.41.

You forget how easy it is to lose your FCH. That's why sometimes deans listers don't get it. One C+ or B- can completely screw up your CAP.
