You throw a stone everyone in that batch was a first except for a small minority.
There was an unspoken rule that you do not need to ask a fellow trainee for degree classification

Well said. Baker is analogous to Singapore in its hey days with home grown talent but now with liberalisation and cecas look wats happened to Singapore

Moral of the story: don't get blinded by the slightly higher starting salary and miss the woods for the tree. when you're a junior assoc, training and brand name is key

Unless you just want money and just waffle your way through practice and milk till you can't milk further. If you aren't enlightened you become the minority and you tank all the work that these wafflers refuse to do but sad you get same pay boohoo

So do people usually purposely wait for at least a year to get married after they just join the firm to avoid naysayers commenting on the inappropriateness of the timing of leave taken?

In my time, a baker trainee was minimally a fch.
But that was minimum, they would have other things such as distinctions in part b, prizes at uni level, dean’s list for all years, etc.

Why would it matter to me if I don't even bother about them. All that matters is whether I have gamed the system and I get paid. I'm not there to stay anyways. And if they hate me isn't that good. They get even more riled up and their lives in distress whereas me enjoying my benefits and pay and having a louder last laugh.
